In memory of

Siu Chun Shum

August 20, 1953 -  January 6, 2023

It is with great sadness that the family of Siu Chun Shum (少珍) announces her passing on January 6, 2023 in Toronto at the age of 69. She fought hard with her brief battle of late stage lung cancer. She was a fighter. She was surrounded by family during her last days.

Born in Guangzhou, China and raised in Hong Kong, Siu (少珍) was the youngest daughter in her household. Siu is survived by her husband, Yuet Tung (Tony), lifelong partner and high school sweetheart. She will be forever loved and missed by her daughter, Cindy Shum (Kai), and sons, Dick Kee Kwong (Minzi) and Henry Kwong (Melissa). She leaves behind 3 grandchildren and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews who loved and respected her.

She immigrated to Canada in the 1980s and quickly became a fabric of the neighbourhood of Leslieville. From her humble beginnings as a garment worker to a small business owner - operating the family restaurant with Tony - she made sure to use her influence to help others. During their retirement, they could be seen on their daily walks, trip to the local swimming pool (Jimmie Simpson), playing table tennis or even going for dim sum. They even formed their own travel group, with detailed trip itineraries - visiting upwards to 20+ countries before COVID hit. Her warmth, generosity, integrity and adventurous spirit will always be remembered.

At this time - if you would like to send flowers - please contact Ruby's Florist in Markham (https://rubyflorist.ca/collections/frontpage) ; or consider donating to The Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care or Odette Cancer Centre - Sunnybrook Hospital. Otherwise a donation box for white envelopes will be set-up during the visitation. There will not be a formal funeral service, but a slideshow and a few words will be shared at the end of the visitation period.

We appreciate all the kind words and support to the family during this tough time. Thank you.

(SIU CHUN SHUM)

此時 - 如果您想送花 - 請聯繫 Ruby's Florist in Markham (https://rubyflorist.ca/collections/frontpage) ;或考慮向 The Temmy Latner 姑息治療中心或 Odette 癌症中心 - Sunnybrook 醫院捐款。

What a beautiful spirit. Full of heart and determination. When Cindy, Dick kee and Henry were young kids,Sui brought them to Jimmie Simpson Pool, where I taught them to swim and coached them as competitive swimmers. She was a supportive mother and always encouraged, and provided for her children. She was very proud of their individual accomplishments, and loved them completely. She'll definitely be missed but forever remembered. Rest in heavenly peace.

Even though I have never met Henry's mother, she looks and sounds like a very nice person.
She will be sorely missed by your family

Her kindness was shown to me on the famous wedding cruise.
Her children have inherited her strengths and kindness.
Leadership skills were displayed in her travels. Tony, your partnership with her equally matched.
