In memory of
Siegfried Riemer
June 17, 1931 -
December 14, 2017
It is with great sadness the family announces the sudden passing of Siegfried at his vacation home in Naples, Florida at the age of 86. He was the beloved husband of Rose and the loving father of Oliver, Sabrina, Christopher (deceased), Dave, Ernst and Armin. He will be dearly missed by his sisters Hannelore and Erika and by many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends and colleagues.
Siegfried immigrated to Canada from Germany in the 1950’s where his ambition, drive and entrepreneur skillset was fulfilled with a successful career in the Wire and Cable industry that spanned over 40 years. His most notable accomplishment was the 1968 construction and 1969 opening of Cable Tech Wire with support and backing of the Beck family and their Noma Group of companies. The original plant was 30,000 sq. ft. and employed 12 people that quickly grew under Siegfried’s steadfast determination and leadership through 3 expansions to a 250,000 sq. facilities employing 250 people. Cable Tech would become a Division of Noma Industries when the corporation went public in the late 1970’s. Siegfried was elected to the board of Director of Noma Industries in 1983.
In addition to Noma Industries, Cable Tech expanded its market base to wire and cable customers throughout North America, which encompassed retail, distribution, industrial and automotive markets. Siegfried would ensure long term viability by embarking on an expansion program that kept current with advancing technologies and state of the art equipment which would keep Cable Tech competitive and solidify stable employment thru 4 decades. Having a fully integrated and cost effective manufacturing process under one roof would ensure the companies competitive foothold that would see Cable Tech grow to the second largest Wire and Company in Canada. In 1990 Siegfried was the recipient of the Charles D. Watson Distinguished Wire and Cable Award as voted by his industry peers in North America. This was the highest honour of its day. In 1991 Siegfried was made President of Noma Industries Electrical Division which in additional to Cable Tech, included 2 automotive plants and 1 industrial plant.
Of most importance Siegfried Riemer will be fondly remembered and admired by his colleagues and employees as a focuses, hardworking visionary, who provided the work and career opportunities for so many families.
