May you go find and join mom and Alex and finally rest in peace. They will show you the way. I think you have been prepared for this moment for past few weeks already when you told me mom and Alex came to visit you.
I am so sorry that I did not make it into Markham Stouffville ER in time to say goodbye to you. I should have been there for you during your final moment instead of a strange nurse, but I know you were at peace.

I remember a story my brother Richard told the funeral home director director during our meeting which I had forgotten when dad told us long time ago. It was one of his proudest moments as an engineer. Long time ago Canada was in a position to sell its very own Canadian built Candu nuclear reactor to China and was looking for a qualified engineer who can speak English, Chinese Mandarin as well as Japanese to lead the project. As can be imagined, very few can qualify and dad was one of only 3 who qualified and was subsequently selected to lead the project. A very proud achievement indeed!

Agong. What a wonderful and fulfilled life you had. Children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. The legacy you leave behind with the success you’ve had in your professional life, and also in your post-retirement days. I always admired your tenacity and grit when it came to life. Overcoming so many obstacles in your life. Growing up in Japanese occupied Taiwan. Standing up to corruption in Taiwan and leaving the country to seek a better life for your family in Canada. Building a life in Canada by learning English and adopting to Canadian culture. But of all the accolades you ever earned in your life, you’ve won the prize for what joy ought to feel like in life. Whenever we swung golf clubs, or drove around in the Subaru, or whenever you were showing me something on the computer about something you had just learned. You were joyful. Your smile and laugh showed me what joy ought to look like. I credit my sense of optimism and joy to you agong. I hope to continue to emulate the way you live life and to spread joy, even across language barriers. I miss you terribly and I love you immensely. Your grandson from the States. Kevan Lin.
