In memory of

Shuchanna Swaby

July 11, 1970 -  December 14, 2025

With deep love and profound sorrow, the family of Shuchanna Swaby announces her passing on December 14, 2025. She left this world gently, surrounded by love and the presence of those who held dearest.

Shuchanna was the devoted wife of Kevin Lundy, with whom she shared eighteen years of marriage grounded in respect, laughter, and unwavering devotion. She is lovingly remembered and mourned by her mother Dorothy Swaby, her father Lloyd Swaby, her sister Chantelle Swaby, and her brother Sean Swaby. Her warmth and presence will remain in the hearts of her extended family, colleagues, and the many friends who adored her.

Bright, focused and quietly ambitious, Shuchanna excelled from the very beginning. She graduated from Port Credit Secondary School, then attended McMaster University where she studied Political Science. Driven by her commitment to justice and to helping families through difficult transitions, she pursued her Bachelor of Laws at Queen’s University, completing her degree from 1993 to 1996.

She went on to build a successful and deeply meaningful career as a family lawyer, dedicating her days to advocating for those who needed protection, guidance and strength. Her gift for bringing calm into challenging situations and her ability to make people feel heard was felt by every client, colleague and friend who crossed her path.

Her life was marked by service snd courage. As a teenager, Shuchanna co-hosted Roger’s Spectrum television program from 1983-1984 as a youth reporter, demonstrating early leadership, and a natural gift for communication. She later served on the Board of Directors of the Barbara Schlifer Commemorative Clinic from 2004-2010, supporting women on their journeys toward safety and freedom from violence.

In 2013, she completed a triathlon, a personal triumph that reflected her resilience and inner strength. Music also brought her joy; she was a keen member of the Etobicoke Community Concert Band, where she played the clarinet as a creative and grounding outlet for a couple of years post McMaster University.

To those closest to her, Shuchanna was a rare light. Her smile softened even the heaviest moments, and her gracious presence drew people in naturally. She was known for her kindness, her thoughtful spirit, and a steady, quiet strength that made others feel safe in her company. Her colleagues admired her integrity, professionalism, and the quiet confidence with which she carried herself.

Rest in peace, dear Shuchanna. Your life was one of quiet impact, deep compassion, and enduring grace. Though you have left this world, your love continues to ripple through the lives you touched, guiding, comforting, and reminding us of the beauty of a life lived with purpose and heart. You will be remembered always, and carried lovingly within us, now and forever.

In keeping with Shuchanna's wishes, donations in her memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, a cause close to her heart.

Shuchanna was a dear friend and colleague and a support to many families in Waterloo Region. I became friends with Shuchanna upon her arrival to Kitchener from Toronto, many years ago and prior to the construction of the new Kitchener Court House. She was always friendly, kind and eager to help. As the Manager of Duty Counsel for many years at the Kitchener Court House, Shuchanna was a constant for families in need. She was always there to help, with a listening ear and compassionate heart. On a personal level Shuchanna was a loving friend always lending support wherever she could. We will miss you dear Shuchanna, forever in our hearts.

I have such fond memories of Scuchanna, mostly at the Kitchener Courthouse. She impressed everyone with her work ethic and commitment to justice. She truly cared. I also remember the class and grace with which Schchanna carried herself. I am sending my condolences to Kevin and all of those that loved Schuchanna.
