In memory of

Shiv Nandan Singh Yadav

July 16, 1930 -  January 8, 2020

Shiv Yadav died on 8 Jan. 2020 at age 89. He was born on 16 July 1930 in the village of Jakhera, in UP, India, the son of Talewar Singh Yadav and Draupadi Yadav. His life took him from the farming village he grew up in, where his father was the village schoolteacher, to a medical career in India and Canada, overcoming many obstacles and meeting many challenges along the way. A deep belief in the value of education and the virtue of conscientious hard work marked his whole life. He married Vimla Yadav, who shared the same values, and they had three children, Anupama, Alok, and Anant, before he came to Canada to pursue further medical study in 1967. The rest of the family joined him two years later in 1969 and what was meant to be a temporary period of study in Canada became a permanent residence. Aside from the practice of internal medicine, both at the Ontario Chest Clinic and in private practice, Dr. Yadav’s main concern was to ensure that his children were well educated and thereby given opportunities in life that he had had to work very hard to achieve for himself. He lived a simple life, with few self-indulgences. His main avocations were gardening and Hindi literature. He pursued his literary avocations, writing hundreds of Hindi poems and publishing them in three collected volumes over the later decades of his life. He is survived by his wife, three children, their spouses (Neil, Zofia), and three grandchildren (Maya, Leela, Sameer). In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care (www.tlcpc.org).
