Shirley Phelps

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our mother Shirley Phelps (nee Parker b. December 14, 1931). She passed away peacefully on June 6, 2021 after a long battle with congestive heart disease.
Originally from a large New Brunswick farming family in Parkers Ridge. She grew up in the early 20th Century with working horses but without running water or electricity. She was determined to travel and after getting her secretarial college diploma in Fredericton she visited New York City and beyond. She lived in Ottawa, Quebec City, Mississauga, rural Athens,ON, Richmond, BC, Melbourne, Australia and finally settled in Pickering, ON.
She is sadly missed by her children Michael (Debbie), Peter & Mary (Richard), grandson Matthew, sisters Beverly, Isabel & Ginger and a large extended family. Predeceased by her husband John T. and parents Beulah & Everett, sisters Margaret, Violet & June, brothers Murray & Warren.
Having many brothers and sisters her chief joy was being around family. She loved music concerts, curling, sailing and the CFL where her favourite player was Garney Henley of the Hamilton Tigercats.

Mum has been cremated and the funeral will be held on September 25, 2021 at 2PM outside at her gravesite at Thornton Cemetery & Funeral Centre, 1200 Thornton Road N., Oshawa, ON, L1J 0C9
