In memory of

Shi Wah Michael Tse

June 23, 1954 -  May 7, 2021

Shi Wah Michael Tse passed at the age of 66.  Although his passing was sudden, it was also peaceful.  Survived by his wife, Mavis, and his son, Clayton.

Michael is a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend.  He spent the early years of his professional career in Hong Kong working at Merrill Lynch, where he was a stock broker.  This is also where he met Mavis, who would later become his wife.

Although he was born in Hong Kong, Michael pursued his education abroad where he obtained his Bachelor of Business Administration at the University of Houston, followed by his Masters of Business Administration at the Arizona State University.

Michael will be fondly remembered by family and friends for his sense of humour and for being a loving father and husband.  His interests include, but are not limited to, gardening, home improvement, and professional basketball (he is an avid Toronto Raptors fan).

I was surprised to bump into Michael in the University orientation in Aug, 1973. Along with another PC classmate, we became roommates at Cougar apartment #208. During that time, we shared a lot of joy and funny "explorations", growing up together. Cooking was one skill we developed from scratch with enough mistakes to laugh about. Our first meal in the apartment was baked chicken, which came out bloody and raw. Not to mention tasteless. Soon after, we all sent letter home to demand can food parcel:) Once I mentioned a gal in our yearbook as cute, Michael and Alan sent a Christmas card to her in my name. Throughout that time, Michael displayed the classical coolness reminding me to check mailbox. Upon receiving the reply, I still can remember his comment on doing that for my own good, giving me a push :) I took driving test 5-6 times, and each time as big outing event that Michael, Alan and I drove to Public Safety to get a time slot, had lunch at a Chinese restaurant, took the driving test and promptly failed, but we were so happy to look for repeating next week. After I passed the driving road test, it was such a loss that no more excuse to go out.
Michael was in Architecture major in first semester. I watched him staring into the space almost daily for project idea with cigarette burning. Luckily he figured out his interest in finance pretty soon and graduated before 4 year time in distinction. Despite the hardship at that time, it was the happiest time growing up together. Even after I moved into dorm, I frequently visited the old friends in the apartment. Thank you, Michael, for sharing that period together. I treasure our laughs in apartment, pizza hut beer outing, dinning out and all the giggling through the night. Although we drifted apart years after, you are always in my life. Hope you are in a better place now. Kit.

Guess I was the one who talked Michael out of Architectural School.
He had made a great choice to attend Business School instead .
