In memory of

陳世鋭先生 Mr. Shi Lie Chen

March 3, 1929 -  November 16, 2019

A kind and gentle man, Shi Lie (Sherman) passed away peacefully at Mackenzie Health Richmond Hill on November 16, 2019, surrounded by his family.

Devoted husband to Su Guen for 62 years. Loving father to Doris (Sam Shum), Edith (Gary Wong) and Wilson (Margaret Nakamura).
Greatly missed by his grandchildren Lauren (George Huovinen), Jeff (Amanda Chan), Justin, Kevin, Anne and Sean. He was so happy to spend time with great grandson Elliott and was anticipating the birth of a second great grandchild. Shi Lie also leaves behind extended family in China - especially a close nephew, Yong-Li, and his family.

Shi Lie was born in Yantai, Shandong, China, the youngest of three brothers. He left for Hong Kong at the age of 21 where he started working in the importing/exporting business and made lifelong friendships. Looking for stability and opportunity for their young family, Shi Lie and Su Guen moved to Canada in 1971, working hard to build a number of gift shops and import companies. In the process, they enjoyed a large network of friends and community acquaintances.

Shi Lie retired in 1992 to a full and busy schedule. Travelling, gardening and time with family were the main focus. For many years, he volunteered at the Yee Hong Centre for Geriatric Care. He attended exercise classes at L’Amoreaux Community Centre (mainly for the coffee and the social scene). Shi Lie was an avid collector of coins, currency, and anything with an interesting story. Generous with praise and ready with a smile, Shi Lie’s ultimate joy were his grandchildren and great grandchild. Many happy memories of family dinners and vacations were made over the years.

Sincere thanks to Mrs. Yu, Joy, and Rachel for their compassionate care at home.
Our deep gratitude to the wonderful nurses and staff at Mon Sheong Long Term Care in Richmond Hill, where Shi Lie enjoyed the last few months of his life.

As per his wishes, in lieu of flowers, donations to the Mon Sheong Foundation (Richmond Hill Long Term Care) would be appreciated. Visitation to be held on Saturday November 23, 2019 at 9:00 am, followed by funeral service at 10:00 am. York Funeral Centre and Cemetery, 160 Beecroft Road, North York.
