In memory of

Shan-Tang (Tom) Cheng

September 1, 1972 -  October 1, 2025

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Shan-Tang (Tom) Cheng, a beloved son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend, who left this world unexpectedly on October 1, 2025, at the age of 53.

Born in Taiwan, and raised in Toronto, Tom navigated life with developmental & physical disabilities, but he lived a life marked by joy in the simple things. He loved reading and collecting books and maps, enjoying his Tim Horton’s iced capp, exploring Toronto via the TTC, frequenting the Eaton’s Centre, being part of his church family, and spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his mother Eunice Cheng, his father PT Cheng, his brother Wayne and sister-in-law Karen. Special uncle to Tanner & Connor. Also survived by several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

There will be a memorial reception where the friends and family of Tom can gather and remember Tom together. It will be held on Friday October 10 from 4-6pm at the York Cemetery and Funeral Centre in North York. Formal remembrances with occur around 4:30pm.

A heartfelt “Thank-You” to Tom’s long-time friend & social worker, Daniel, and to the Mission Kare Life staff that had most recently cared for Tom so well. Also, a sincere thank-you to so many church brothers & sisters who have shown Tom compassion and love for all of his time living in Toronto.

May Tom rest in peace, fully restored, spending eternity with the God he knows and loves.

Tom left us too soon, but he is in a much better place. May he rest in peace until we are together again. With Christ all things are possible, only believe.

Growing up, my brothers and I had two definitive cousins (big cousin and little cousin) and our Aunt. They have been a constant in our lives. When I think of family, growing up, it's always with them. While I'm sure us kids were annoying to Tom, he taught us patience and love. I am heartbroken that my family in this world is a little smaller. He is still loved and death doesn't break that bond.

I met Tom and Wayne when we were teenagers. He was a great brother to Wayne. So deeply saddened to hear of your loss. Tom was such a kind, genuine soul whose warmth touched everyone around him. Gone far too soon, but never forgotten. Thinking of your family with love and sympathy.

Tom lived a very good life, and I'm grateful I was part of those whom he met during his time.. I would definitely miss the way he calls me and most especially his smile whenever he sees me.. I pray God grant him eternal rest!!

I've only known a world with Tom in it. He was a constant in my life and I took comfort in just knowing he was around. I never realized how much that mattered until he wasn't. The only thing helping to fill the hole left behind is knowing that he is at peace.

We will miss you Tom.
