In memory of

Sean "Sax" Taylor

February 22, 1970 -  November 18, 2021

On November 18, 2021, Sean Taylor, popularly known as DJ Sean Sax, passed away peacefully in his sleep in Toronto, Ontario, Canada due to complications of his autoimmune illness. Sean lived his life with such altruism that he did not want his health to be the focal point. For the greater part of the last three decades Sean lived with ankylosing spondylitis - stoically and determined to continue to share his authentic self with the world.

Sean Kenrick Leonard Taylor was born on February 22, 1970 at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Toronto, only child to his mother, Ms. Barbara Taylor, the eldest son of Mr. Kenrick Hercules and older brother to Jason Hercules and Kamila Gwinn. Sean’s early childhood years were spent living between Toronto and the Taylor family home in Cocoyea Village, San Fernando, Trinidad and Tobago.

Sean began to explore his passion for music at a young age playing anything from the saxophone, to the trumpet, to the drums. He was the first student in over 10 years to play the French Horn at his high school, Riverdale Collegiate Institute. His musical aptitude was undeniable. In his post-secondary years, Sean was fortunate to be able to hone his skills as a DJ and artist through his participation in the Fresh Arts program, as well as his stint as a campus radio DJ at York University’s Glendon College Campus, his alma mater.

As an accomplished DJ, Sean played at different hot spots around Toronto, eventually becoming a resident DJ at some of the most popular locations including Power Bar (which was broadcast into the homes of people from Buffalo to Toronto by WBLK), Industry, Supermarket and Revival. Sean also was the resident DJ for regular events including Do Right Saturdays and Gumbo. Sean’s “Soul on Ice” radio show had listeners on two different continents for more than half a decade. Sean never forgot his roots as a musician and produced songs for recording artists as well as played percussion for live bands. All of these experiences allowed Sean to continue to share his love for music.

Aside from his love of music, Sean also shared a deep love for family. He was an exemplary son, a cherished nephew and a captivating brother figure to several cousins, but the role he was most proud of was that of father. His sons, Xavier and Quinton, were always a source of pride that he put on full display for all to see and his drive to keep moving forward regardless of life’s obstacles was fueled by his enduring love for them.

Rest In Everlasting Peace, Sean "Sax" Taylor. Founder, Creator, Supporter of all music - The world was certainly blessed with your presence and we will continue your legacy of musically touching souls. May that infectious smile never fade.

the laughter… the vibes… the community - unforgettable memories. The hard times were better because you were there. The good times are too blurry to recall, but you KNOW Sax was there. grateful that our last conversation was a quiet one, no busy dance floor or sound systems in the way, just memories, proud parental tales and big hugs. Ill look out for the fellas, you already know. Give Masimba a hug from the rest of us. Legends. Forever. Now, together. xxo

Sean, you will be missed. From your radiant smile that lit up any room to your smooth transitions and care for your craft that was always apparent. You were a standard for humility and kindness and you made my heart smile every time I saw you. You were a true blessing to our industry and I’m grateful to have the honour of knowing you.

J'ai toujours plaisir a écouter ta musique et a t'écouter toi me parler avec sérénité et sagesse. J'étais admiratif de ton esprit libre.
Je ne pourrais pas oublier
