In memory of

Santos Sr. "Sonny" Sevilla

November 16, 1938 -  April 7, 2019

Sonny was born in Urdaneta, Pangasinan to loving parents Eugenio and Potenciana. Sonny was the youngest child. He had 2 brothers and 4 sisters.

Sonny and his family later moved to Manila where they would settle into their new family home.

When it was time for university, Sonny’s father Eugenio, a Police Officer, urged him to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. Sonny followed his wishes and studied for two years at the University of Philippines. Ultimately, Sonny decided to follow his calling, and following in the footsteps of his sister, brother, and father became a Police Officer.

He graduated with a Criminology Degree from the Philippine College of Criminology. Sonny joined the Quezon City Police Force for 2 years before transferring to Manila’s Finest.

One fateful day in 1968, wearing his full police uniform, he drove past Angie’s family store in his jeep. At just 15 years old, Angie fell in love with Sonny at first sight. Sonny was 30 years old.

Angie was so love-struck, she tracked him down and asked him on a date. This was the start of a love that lasted more than 50 years.

Angie and Sonny have 4 children: Senen (Jess), Eleanor Lou “Elaine”, Loida “Loi” (Edwin), and Santos Jr. “Rhys” (Parissa). He is also blessed with 6 beautiful grandchildren Elijah, Trejan, Rylen, Shay, Kai, and Cali plus 3 furry grandchildren Gandalf, Aguman, and Yiannis.

We lost him too soon to lung cancer.

For you dad:

You understood me,
and gave me my space.
I truly felt your love,
it was like a warm embrace.

You never imposed your opinions or views.
Always leaving it up to me to choose.

You had faith in me,
knowing I’d follow the right way.
Leading by example,
not just by the words that you say.

You were giving, you were generous
remembering me more times than I can count.
This was your nature,
without any doubt.

You fought your battle
longer than anyone even knows.
Not wanting to give up
because you love us so.

It’s hard to say goodbye to you dad.
This pain is never ending,
the ache is so bad.

Like you gave me wings to fly,
you now have yours,
and I can picture you soaring high in the sky.

I love you so much dad,
time or distance will not change.
I take some solace knowing,
one day I will again see your face.

Your wings were ready, our hearts were not.

We will miss you every single day.

After your funeral:

Tears still fall when I think of you,
and I’m trying to move on dad, but it’s so hard.
I don’t know what else I can do.

I know you want me to be strong,
but this is an overpowering ache.
I feel so much sadness inside,
my heart continues to break.

When will the tears turn to a smile from thoughts of you,
or laughs remembering all the typical “dad” things you would say or do?

I pray to the Lord, to put me on a faster path to get there.
A time when memories of you I can happily share.

For now, I live in grey days with rain all around,
waiting for my Saviour Lord Jesus to turn it from tears to sweet sounds.

You taught me to have faith dad, to believe what I can’t see,
I look to the heavens, please grant me my plea.
