In memory of

Sandra Wong

April 8, 1968 -  November 27, 2022

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Sandra Wong on Sunday, November 27, 2022.

Sandra is survived by her parents Kim Chiu and Wan Ho, and brother Philip who wish to thank all her dear friends, caregivers and family for their love and support throughout her life but especially throughout her cancer journey—particularly Margaret Ngai, Wendy Tam-Wai and Robert Smith.

Born in The Bahamas, Sandra was a teacher at Brookhaven Public School in Toronto who championed extracurricular activities for her students. She was a volunteer coach with the Special Olympics and supported many charities. She was a lover of food, travel and nature; she cherished time spent hunting for the best butter tarts in Ontario, teaching children in Eritrea and birding in Tommy Thompson Park. She had a special place in her heart for the Chinese and Bahamian culinary traditions of her upbringing.

Sandra was a kind, generous and thoughtful soul who tread this Earth gently. Humility, fairness and curiosity guided her way. She shared warmth, laughter and joy to those fortunate to be a part of her life.

Memorial donations may be made in Sandra’s honour to Princess Margaret Hospital, Bridgepoint Health or Brookhaven Public School. A memorial service followed by reception will be held on Sunday, December 11 at 1:00pm at Pine Hills Funeral Centre, 625 Birchmount Road in Toronto. (For gifts to Brookhaven Public School go to https://tdsb.schoolcashonline.com/Fee/Details/457/153/false/true?school=-1&initiative=6 and change the "School" field to Brookhaven.)

I am better friend and teacher for knowing Sandra as she taught me a lot about myself. One of my best takeaways from my numerous interactions with Sandra over the years is that less is more. I need to talk less and listen more, to better understand those around me. This is one of many teachable moments I will carry with me for the rest of my life. Thank you is an understatement.

Here’s to you, Sandra- a wonderful human being . For the lessons and the laughter I am eternally grateful. Your legacy will live on . Here’s to Grodzinskys bakery babka, cinnamon rolls and the image of you eating pie- forever seared in my brain. You will be missed ❤️

Please accept my most heartfelt condolences. She was my colleague and dear friend.
I will cherrish last 18 yers we had known each other. It was time filled with her laughters, stories about her travel she made somewhere in the world and her new plans for next trip that did not happen yet. I appreciate our small talks about how and where our daily life take us to. No matter how long after I see or talk to her, it was like picking up the thread left the day before. She will be remembered as long time as I see it coming. Rest in peace, Sandra. You will be missed.
