Dad, thank you for always being there for us. Despite your physical set back, you took care of your family and never let your pain or discomfort get in the way of your work. You provided a great example to all of us to be determined, and always give our best in every situation. You were our rock.

We watched you suffer the last month or so and although we will miss you, we know that you are in a better place. We had some nice talks in the early mornings at the hospital and I know you often wondered what will come after death. I hope you have found your loved ones and have also found the answer to that question. You said you would try and send a sign back to us. Joke or not, perhaps one day we will meet again.

Dad you will never be forgotten. You and mom raised five children, became grandparents and also have great-grandchildren. You will live on in us.

One of my favourite quotes is "If you look deeply into the palm of your hand, you will see your parents and all generations of your ancestors. All of them are alive in this moment. Each is present in your body. You are the continuation of each of these people".

Love you dad and will miss you.

On behalf of my husband Roland and siblings Gerarda and Ron, we extend our deepest condolences to Aunt Ina, cousins Roy, Margret, Peter, Helga, Bob and families for their loss. We are so thankful that we had a chance to visit Uncle Rijnder in hospital just a few weeks ago, to say goodbye.
Although Uncle Rijnder always had a presence in our lives, we only really came to know him in our adult years. Like his brothers, those early years in Canada were spent working hard to make ends meet and providing for his family. Over time, there were many memorable visits with Uncle Rijnder. He seemed to enjoy a lively chat about this and that, current events and politics and always had a few good stories to share with a twinkle in his eye and a twist of humour. We all knew that when his index finger came up and started pointing in the air with great purpose, he was about to make a profound statement that would be worth waiting for!!
Being a modest and humble man, he would often comment about knowing his place in the world. But his wisdom and insight into the human condition far surpassed many who formally studied such things. His education was the University of Life and he was able to put it all together in a way that had real meaning and impact on others. Unlike many of his generation, Uncle Rijnder understood the value of using modern technology for learning and communication. He learned to use a computer from early on and he was the only uncle we knew with an email address and a smart phone. Now THAT is cool!!
Uncle Rijnder seemed to be at the hub of Klomp family news and he made it his business to keep the Klomp family bond together in times of good fortune and hardship. He was definitely the “go to” person for anything related to the family in Canada and abroad. Our dad always looked forward to visiting with his bother Rijnder who could always find something in common to chat about and with whom he could solve the world’s problems from their armchairs.
Over the years, Uncle Rijnder organized many extended trips to Canada for our Grandparents from Holland, thus giving us all an opportunity to visit with them, and have precious childhood memories that we now hold dear. It is because of his dedicated interest and many hours of work in studying the Klomp family tree, that we all know more about our Dutch family heritage.
We are sorry that the last few months for Uncle Rijnder were so painful and difficult. But as with every challenge in his life, he showed courage, perseverance and put up a good fight. We know he is in a better place now and for everyone else, Life will go on. He has left a remarkable legacy and, among other things, we will remember him as a kind and generous man who loved and lived for his family and touched the lives of those around him. May he rest in Peace.

My condolences to tante Ina, to Roy, Margret, Peter, Helga, Bob and families for the loss of ome Rijnder.

I got to know ome Rijnder when I first visited Canada. He had many stories about Holland, the Dutch family and all that happend here in the past.

Every time, before we would go to Canada, I was filled with joy to see the family again and of course to hear the stories of ome Rijnder.

Ome Rijnder has encouraged me to look into the Klomp family tree. I will always be greatful for that. He pointed me into the right direction with all the information he himself had gathered over the years.
When I discovered that the "Klomp"family name was written as "Clomp" in the 1700's, ome Rijnder was very enthusiastic to hear this.

I like to think that he is now watching over us from above and is reunited with his parents and brothers.

I will miss him.
