At the age of 93, Ross Edwin Brown passed away on Sunday, November 2, 2025, with his loving wife, Shirlea, and stepdaughter Brenda by his side. His family is deeply grateful for the unwavering love and support of his step-granddaughter Carissa, with whom Ross shared a special bond and a shared passion for hockey.
Born on January 18, 1932, Ross lived a full and active life surrounded by family, laughter, and community. He was predeceased by his first wife, Theresa, with whom he had five children: (predeceased) Sharon Power (Rick), Stephen Brown, Heather Chang, (predeceased) Kelly Miller, and Sandra Parrington. Ross always beamed with pride when sharing stories about his children and their accomplishments.
Ross was blessed to find love again with his devoted wife, Shirlea, with whom he shared many happy years. He was also grateful for the warmth and support of her daughter, Brenda, who became a cherished part of his life.
He was especially proud of his grandchildren — Pamela, Jonathon, Andrew, Samantha, Jamie, Shane, Kayla, Simon, Kaitlyn, Carissa, and Jamie — and of his many great-grandchildren, who brought him endless joy.
A man of boundless energy, Ross had a lifelong love of sports and the outdoors. From childhood through adulthood, he could often be found playing hockey, football, working out in his home gym, fishing and camping. He shared that same enthusiasm with his children. Whether it was the love of sports or the outdoors, Ross made sure his kids stayed healthy, active and involved. He was especially well known in his neighbourhood for creating an outdoor skating rink every winter — a gathering place where countless children learned to skate and share his love of the game.
For much of his married life, Ross also enjoyed having an outdoor swimming pool, which became a favourite gathering spot for family and friends. Many summer days were spent poolside, filled with laughter, splashing, and storytelling — memories that will be treasured by all who shared them. Neighbours often saw Ross rollerblading past their homes, out on the golf course, or volunteering in his community — always active, always engaged.
Ross will be remembered for his generosity, humour, and deep devotion to family. He leaves behind a legacy of love, energy, and a strong work ethic that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
A private graveside interment will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Thornton Cemetery, 1200 Thornton Road, Oshawa, Ontario.
