Rosey Sampath

Rosey Sampath (nee Loorkhoor) was born in 1939 in Jordan Hill near Princes Town, Trinidad. She was the daughter of Basmatea Sinanan and Loorkhoor, and sister to Jessie, Sylvia, the late Violet, the late Kenny, and the late Boysie.

In 1958, she met Teeluckram Sampath. She was married in May 25 of that year. She moved to Claxton Bay to live with her in-laws. Rosey and Teeluck had six children - Carol, Junior, Clara, Sullivan, Claire and Randy. Over the next few decades, Rosey was committed to raising her children, always putting them first and doing her best for them.

In 1992, she moved to Canada to join her children. Her family was now growing. She was mother-in-law to Bryan, Tara, Torrence, Ravie and Sue. She adored her eight grandchildren — Jonathan, Michael, Genevieve, Aaron, Elyssa, Amelia, Kevin and Katelyn.

Rosey was a kind and giving person. She was always willing to help the less fortunate, and anyone in need with the little she had. She was never too busy to lend an ear and give words of comfort to people in need. She was the family matriarch and surrogate mother to many.

With her resiliency, determination and love for her family, Rosey defied many odds in her life’s journey - so much that she made sure that she reached her 86th birthday. She will always be our loving mother and grandmother and we will miss her dearly. Undoubtedly, we will feel her presence in all her favourite things as we carry on.
