In memory of

Rosa Marina Roldan

May 16, 1931 -  September 23, 2018

My mami (Nina) was only 87 when she passed away Sunday, September 23rd in her home in Milton with both of her daughters by her side and after her Sunday mass. It’s hard to say goodbye. We wish that we had more time, and perhaps that during the time we had we had spent more of it together. We wish that so much of her life had not been lost to her illness, that things could have been different for her, and for us. While we know that she is at peace and that her struggles are at an end, there is pain and sadness. But even though she is gone, she has left the legacy of her love, strength and perseverance. The ways she touched our lives will remain, and I ask you to keep those memories alive by sharing them with me and with one another.

My mom did not have and easy life, she was raised by family members and not with her own mom. She had to grow a business from nothing to a successful shoe store. She had two children and had to raise her on her own. She even survived a civil war for 10 years and never missed a day in her business. But through everything Mom went through, she managed to keep her priorities straight. What can be more important than loving and showing your love for your family? How can some of us who are blessed with so much forget to be thankful to God, while somehow Mom kept her faith through all of her trials and danced and laugh through it all.
This is a wonderful legacy. This is a wonderful example to follow. Keep focused on what is truly important, not only when your life is easy, but when it is difficult too. She believed in living life to the fullest.
One of the most important things in Mom’s life was her grandkids, and she took great pride in her babies. Kids are special flowers. It takes patience and perseverance and a love for kids to grow them into the beautiful flowers they are today. Her grandkids were her pride and utmost joy.

Mami (Nina) is survived by her two daughters Sylvia & Roxana (Patty), their spouses Steve & James, her 3 granddaughters Alex, Stephanie & Ashley and her grandson Jay, as well as other relatives and friends. This family, and her role as mother and grandmother, was the most important thing to Mom. This is where she drew her strength and left her legacy. Being with her family was what Mami enjoyed most of all. Her life had many obstacles, and she struggled for 3 years with a devastating illness. Yet through it all, her love for her family remained, and in so many, many ways, she was able to show that love to us. This perseverance through adversity is a powerful lesson for us, and I believe it is her legacy. What a wonderful lesson she gave us. Keep your priorities straight. Love and care for your family. Let them know in all the ways you can show them that you love them. Don’t let adversities or setbacks or any of the distractions of the world keep you from this most important aspect of life and live life to the fullest.

Te amamos mucho Mami (Nina)

On behalf of the family, I’d like to thank you all for visiting this site today.

P.S. My mom did not believe in organized charitable organizations. Please do a good deed for someone in need and think of her when you do. That is the best way to honour her memory.

Dear Roldan family,

I did not have the pleasure of knowing this great woman personally but heard many lovely stories from Sylvia.

Thinking of you during this difficult time. She is a better place and watching over you now with a smile on her face. Rosa Marina soar high with the angles and be free!

Fue un ejemplo de madre, mujer trabajadora, que nunca se rindió. Sintiendo mucho queridas primas la muerte de mi tía, deseo de corazón que encuentren el consuelo en los brazos de nuestro Señor Jesucristo. Bendiciones.

My prayers are with you Patty at this very difficult time. I so admire your strength as you cared for your mother right to the end. I can only pray that has time moves forward in my journey of caring for my mother that I have the strength to do it just has you have done, with compassion, love and patience. Your mother I am sure is smiling down on you and thinking how truly lucky she was to have you.
Much Love Cathie
