Ronald G. Morrison “MOE”

"Peacefully at home, on the morning of Wednesday, January 26, 2022, at the age of 88 with his beloved wife, Darlene of 65 years by his side. Loving father of Terry (Julie), Barry, Brian and Dave (Jan). Cherished Papa to Michael, Cody, Matthew, Nicole, Ryan, Sara and Corbin.

A life-long athlete and avid hockey fan, Ron was always excited to strap on his skates with his many friends at the local rink or share a story while watching a game. Likely one of the most soft-spoken people in the crowd, his love of competition brought out an excitement that was reserved for the rink.

His passion for hockey was passed down to his 4 sons, with countless weekends coaching, mentoring or travelling from town to town to support them in the love of the game that they got from Dad. Along the way, Ron championed youth hockey throughout his community and supported local organizations, helping to inspire many young hockey players, many of whom still fondly remember him as coach

After retiring from a career at IBM after 38 years, a Tuesday and Thursday afternoon would not be complete without a lively game of pick-up at Don Beer or Art Thompson Arena with the Moe’s HS Hockey group. Decades of friendship with old friends continued and an uncountable number of new friends were made on the bench through this time. The letters, videos and phone calls of support from the Moe’s HS Hockey group over the course of the last two and a half years kept a smile on Moe’s face, even in the most enduring of times, and will be cherished by Darlene and family forever.

As his family grew over time, his greatest joy was spending time with his 7 grandchildren. Together with their Nanny, Papa, wouldn’t miss an opportunity to support them in their many hobbies or teach them something new. Whether on the golf course, at the arena for hockey or figure skating or at a highland game, Papa shared in their success and was always there to provide a gentle reassurance in their defeat. It is no surprise that Papa would be one of their first calls after receiving exciting news about a new job, a good grade, or one of life’s milestones. Papa’s quiet sense of humor always brought a smile to their face. The “back in my day” stories often left them wondering if he was telling the truth or leading them astray.

The walls of Ron’s office are a testament to a life well lived with many family and friends, with pictures of past hockey teams, good friends, dinners out, family getaways, graduations, and special moments covering the walls.

A true family man, through and through, he will be dearly missed by his family, who will remember him as a soft-spoken mentor, gifted hockey player, good listener, generous lender of time (and tools), and loving Husband, Dad and Papa. "

In lieu of flowers support of assistfund at Hockey Canada is appreciated. It will help support future generations to play the game “MOE” loved so much.

I don’t think I’ll ever meet anyone who loved the game of hockey more. Ron certainly made this world a better place for all of us.
