In memory of

Roden Cortero

July 23, 1968 -  July 21, 2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Roden Cortero at 56 years old, just two days before his 57th birthday. We are in absolute shock about this sudden loss as he lived a healthy and happy life with no complaints.

Roden was born in Manila, Philippines, the youngest and only son of Rodolfo and Rosalie Cortero. He met his wife, Jean Amat, in the Philippines, and got married in 1995. After he worked in Singapore for a couple of years, they reunited in Canada and had a son, Ryan Cortero, in 1997. Roden worked at Celestica for over 25 years. He was such a people person, forming strong connections at work, with family, neighbors, and even passerbys in his day-to-day life. Roden always loved taking care of people, making them laugh, and making sure they're well-fed. He was a bright light in the lives that he touched.

Roden will be missed by his wife, son, and daughter-in-law, Francesca Doctolero-Cortero, who he treated as his own. He also leaves behind his mother and his two sisters, Ragene Cortero and Hariet Vicente. His memory will keep living on through the Corteros, Amats, Doctoleros, Calimags, Galsims, Livados, Pablos, and the countless other families and friends he's touched over the years.

If you have any photos of Roden, please message them to Francesca or email at fvdoctolero@gmail.com. You can also message them to Ryan, or email at ryancortero@hotmail.com.

Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation that will be held at Pine Hills Funeral Centre, 625 Birchmount Road, Scarborough on Thursday, July 31, 2025 and Friday, August 1, 2025 from 4 - 8 p.m. Food and refreshments will be provided.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, 717 Kennedy Road, Scarborough on Saturday, August 2, 2025 at 10 a.m. Private Cremation to follow.

Losing you feels unreal. You weren’t just my life long friend — you were family, my safe place, my constant. The one who laughed with me when life was good, and stood beside me when it wasn’t. It’s hard to put into words what your absence feels like. I miss your voice, your smile, your presence — everything that made life better just by having you in it.

Though you're no longer here in body, I know your spirit lives on — in the memories we made, in the love you gave so freely, and in the space you’ll always hold in my heart. I will carry you with me for the rest of my life. I love you. I miss you. I’ll never forget you."
Rest in peace Roden Cortero
