In memory of

James Robertson

August 28, 1921 -  December 25, 2017

Jim Robertson
Peacefully, with family by his side on Christmas Day in his 97th year. Beloved husband of the late Mary and best dad to Doug, Ian and Jean (David Bloom). Loving grandad to James, Laurie, Sam, Ben and Natalie and great grandad to Connor and Georgia. Devoted friend of Wayne Page. Jim was born in Prestonpans, Scotland and joined the Royal Air Force right out of high school. He served in WWII as an air gunner and wireless operator, participating in 48 flying missions between 1942 and 1944. He arrived in Canada in 1946 and commenced a long and successful career with Eaton’s. In 1977, he became the first store manager of the new Eaton Centre flagship store which he “minded” until his retirement in 1987. Throughout his life, Jim was known for his warmth and generosity. He spoke often of being blessed with much love and good fortune. A diagnosis of Alzheimer’s several years ago did not deprive him of his charm and good humour. He spent his last three years at the Seniors Health Centre in North York where he often entertained the staff with song and story. Our heartfelt appreciation to his many caregivers and a special thanks to Hyacinth Edwards whose kindness and love can never be repaid. A private service is being arranged. On-line condolences can be made at: www.etouch.ca

Jimmy was indeed the First Store Manager of the Eaton Flagship store. He was a very good store minder. We did many times tours of the store, and Simpsons together. He once told me I will leave them in my wake, and he did.

He gave me the key to the store saying "its your store", I replied "ITS YOURS and you know it, Jimmy"! I have kept the key ever since.

He was a marvelous man, will be much missed.

I am sorry, I can say good bye, Jimmy.

Jimmy was the perfect choice to "stick handle" the opening of Eaton Center and amalgamate the staffs from the Queen and College locations. Great insight, great humour with that twinkle in his eye and always a steady hand on the rudder. I thoroughly enjoyed working with him during that period.
