In memory of

Roberta Tilbe

May 19, 1928 -  July 24, 2018

Roberta Mae Tilbe passed away peacefully at her place of residence on July 24, 2018 at the age of 90 with her family by her side.

Born in Toronto on May 19, 1928, Roberta was the daughter of Agnes (nee McGhie) and Thomas McDonnell and remained in Toronto where she married her husband and raised her family.

Roberta was an avid traveller and a woman willing to try new adventures. Never one to be idle, she kept busy with tennis, bridge, curling, golf, cross-country skiing, ballroom dancing (starting at the young age of 80), night courses at university, art classes, volunteering in local hospitals, and being a Brownie leader, to name just a few of her many activities.

The Donalda Club, where she was a Chartered Member, and her cottage in the Muskokas, were two of her favourite places to spend time with family and friends.

Our mother will be remembered for being a loving, compassionate, and gentle woman who had a real zest for life and a positive attitude, never fearful of taking on new challenges and always willing to help, even later in life. In her 80’s Roberta enjoyed boarding the church bus in the cold of winter to head to downtown Toronto to feed those in need. She lived her life in the service of her Lord Jesus Christ and in the service of her community and church.

Roberta shared a loving marriage of 46 years with her beloved husband, Alfred Peter Tilbe, until his passing in 1999. Together they built a life of love for each other and their family. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, she will be greatly missed by her son Dr. Kim Tilbe (Dr. Patricia Kresan), her three daughters Robin (Glen) Boy, Judith (David) Graham, and Karen (Geoff) Reed, her grandchildren, Ashley, Erin (David), Courtney, Scott, Carlye, Luke, Jack, and Bronwyn, and her great granddaughter Jazlyne and one she did not yet know, as well as many friends and extended family.

We are so thankful for our mother, grandmother, and friend … for the life she lived and the legacy she has left behind … and for the joy of knowing she is now in heaven with her Lord.

The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
He leads me beside quiet waters,
He refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
for His name’s sake …

Surely your goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

Psalm 23: 1-3, 6

Our sincerest condolences to the whole family on the passing of your mother, mother-in-law and grandma. I (Brenda) cherish my memories of Roberta -- stuffing hotdogs into buns together for Street Connection many a Monday night, riding the bus downtown and enjoying wonderful conversations with her. From these conversations I learned what was important to her: her faith and her family. She had stories to share both of family travels which she so delighted in and of her grandchildren of whom she was undeniably proud. We will remember her as a gentle but strong woman with a ready smile and a heart to serve the Lord. May God comfort you in your grief, knowing she is with the Lord and has left behind a wonderful legacy.

Roberta and I would shop together in the store where I worked to prepare for her many trips. She was a lovely, kind and elegant woman with a zest for life.
