Richard Seeram Ramadeen, known to many as Ivan, was born in Industry Crown Dam, Guyana.
He was the son of Mahabeer and Etwaria Ramadeen. Brother to Paul, Isaac, Daniel, Rose, David, and Samuel.
He married his wife, Shrimatie (also known as Verona) in 1974 and together they have a daughter, Sharon and a son, Andrew. He gained a daughter-in-law, Dianne and grandsons, Jeremiah and Ezra, as well as a granddaughter Rachel.
He died peacefully at home, in his sleep, on March 24, 2023. He was 81 years old.
He was educated at Grahamโs Hall, Ogle Canadian Mission School, and GTI. He won the Bookerโs scholarship and completed an apprenticeship program at LBI Sugar Estates where he won the distinction of most outstanding apprentice multiple times.
He came to Toronto, Canada in 1969 and studied engineering at what is now Ryerson University. He helped to bring his family to Canada. He worked at Canada Post for 30 years as a mechanical engineer. After he retired, he went to live in Florida, USA. He returned to Canada in 2013 after the birth of his first grandson, Jeremiah.
He was a farmer, a beekeeper, a draftsman, an engineer, and well into his 70s he could grow anything, build anything, and fix anything. He was a faithful servant of God, a devoted husband, a loving father, a great mentor, a joyful grandfather, and a great friend.
