In memory of

Richard Quoc Tai Ly

January 28, 2003 -  September 26, 2022

We announce the passing of Richard Quoc Tai Ly on September 26, 2022. Richard leaves behind his parents Chris and Liena, his brothers Vincent and William, as well as many friends and relatives. Richard grew up in Guelph, where he attended Gateway Drive Public School, and subsequently Guelph Collegiate Vocational Institute.

Richard was curious and soft-spoken; his smile was warm, bright and genuine. He made close friends with whom he could share his humour and creativity. They would play games and banter well into the night; their antics were legendary. Richard’s dream was to become a video game developer.

Despite being diagnosed with leukemia, Richard was easy-going and never seemed to lose spirit. He could make others feel at ease, continuing to laugh and play with his friends. He was kind and gentle and will be deeply missed.

He is a kind and welcoming brother who cherished those he loved. He founded time to play and talk to his friends and families to share his joy and ideas. The time spent playing games and watching anime together were precious moments in my life. When I saw his drawings and animation, I saw art potential that were similar to mine. Although he is gone, I will remember Richard in his happiest moments.

Richard and I have been friends for about 5 years now and in that time I've come to know him as an amazing friend. He showed me many different interests and hobbies that I came to enjoy and he was an absolute blast to hang out with. It is a massive tragedy to lose him at such a young age. I will always remember him as an amazing person and joy to be around.

I met Richard through a mutual friend of ours about three years ago. Over those three years I got to know him and experienced some of the greatest times of my life along side him. I will always cherish the many nights we spent sharing laughs, playing games, watching movies and just having genuine fun. He was one of the best and most loyal friends anyone could have asked for.

We were friends for a few years, but I've known Richard since childhood. We had fun watching movies and playing games together. It's unfortunate to see him go so soon.

I met Richard in kindergarten, and for fourteen whole years of my life I've been blessed with knowing one of the kindest, funniest and most genuine friends I could ask for. Through thick and thin Richard was always there for me, and I will always be grateful for the light he shined in my life. Richard was always a wonderful person to be around, and he always made me laugh so much. He introduced my to so many wonderful people I'm still friends with today, and that wouldn't have been possible without him. I'll never forget the kindness Richard always showed me. Rest in peace friend, Thank you for the wonderful memories.
