Richard, lovingly known as Dick to family and friends, was born in Toronto Dec, 29 1941. He was the eldest of three sons to Thomas and Dorothy Harrald (Hutchinson).
He will be missed by his brothers, Bruce (Sharon), and family, Winnipeg, and James, Creemore Ont. and his brother-in-law Gordon Preston (Kathryn).
Dick was an Uncle and Great Uncle to several nieces and nephews and Great, Great Uncle to Jameson Roznik.
Dick went to Northern Secondary School where he met his future wife and love of his life, Noreen Preston. They married and lived in Leaside where they raised three sons - Scott, Brent (Michael) and Kirk (Joanne). Richard’s greatest joy in life was his family. He was a devoted husband, father and Grandpa to his three grandchildren - Quinn, Tobin and Adelynn. Coaching his children in hockey, baseball, and tennis instilled many valuable lessons in team play, support and determination for later life careers. As a Queen Scout, his early camping experiences led the family to summer holidays camping and canoeing in many Canadian Provincial Parks where he passed on his love for nature, teaching wilderness survival skills, and the sport of fishing. He held a special love for Algonquin Park where over many summers time was spent fishing with his grandchildren. Grandpa always had patience and a sense of humour when sharing in their activities and encouraging them in gaining new skills.
Richard enjoyed a career with Sears in store planning which necessitated spending weeks away in cities across Canada during Sears’ years of expansion. His later years with Sears allowed him to be home with this family while working in appliance purchasing for catalogues and stores. After his years at Sears, he began his own kitchen design and custom cabinets business.
Richard will be missed more than words can say. He was a true gentleman, devoted loving husband, father and the best friend one could ever hope for.
The family wish to thank all the staff at Belmont House and Dr. Birmingham for the attentive care and kindness shown to Richard, “COACH” as they affectionately often called him.
