In memory of

Rebecca Mckinlay

November 2, 1975 -  June 28, 2022

On June 16th, our dear Rebecca Mckinlay, went into cardiac arrest. Our daughter Brianna found her unconscious, vitals absent, and was able to heroically perform CPR until paramedics and firemen arrived. While enroute to hospital, paramedics were able to restart her heart and stabilize her. Unfortunately, the damage to her brain was catastrophic and she was placed on life support.

Despite all medical efforts to treat her and us obtaining 2nd, 3rd and 4th medical opinions/consultations from various experts in the province and abroad, the most impossible decision to remove her from life support was made. On June 28th, as she took her last breath peacefully, she was surrounded by family and love.

After 27 years married, 30 years together, I feel like a piece of me died with her that day. However, her caring spirit, her infectious laughter, her unwavering love and gentle touch will live forever in all of our hearts.

Good night my love and sweet dreams.
You can rest now.
We miss you more than you know.
We love you. Xo

My dear baby girl. I loved you in life and now I love you even more. I’m proud of you , even as you rest. You have brought together family and friends, into peace and reconciliation. That was always your way. You are loved and you are love. My darling daughter, if we only had you with us for a bit longer, say 50 more years. Alas, you live in each of our hearts, until we meet again, sweetheart, Rest In Peace, my baby girl.

I am heartbroken. It was such a joy working with Rebecca at Sunnybrook. I will always remember Rebecca as a vibrant, kind and beautiful colleague. We shared lots of laughs too. Rick, I send you love and strength and sympathy.

When our body is no longer able to perform its functions in the natural world but is separated from our spirit, which is called dying, we still continue to be ourselves and to live. We ourselves live, because we live not from the body but from the spirit, since it is the spirit which thinks and loves in us, and thought with affection makes us what we are.

Remember, friends, that everyone is born for heaven; and that they are received into heaven who receive heaven in themselves while in this world."
