In memory of

Raymond A. Kundinger

November 9, 1931 -  December 5, 2022

Raymond Albert Frederick Kundinger -- Adman and Artist, Nov 9, 1931 to Dec 5, 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce Ray passed away peacefully with his family by his side, after a year long illness, at the age of 91.

Ray is predeceased by his parents: Raymond Albert Frederick Kundinger (Sr) of Detroit Michigan and Gladys Alvina Skirving of Lovell Wyoming, his daughter Tracy Lynn Kundinger, his sister Audrey Jean Louth and brother-in-law Donald Louth. Ray is survived by his lovely wife of 67 years, Mary Harding, his 3 daughters Lee-Ann (Steve Markhauser), Sharon, Jeannine (Patrick Georgetti), his 6 grandchildren Kianna (Sean Jackson), Lucas, Joey, Jack, Liam, Colson and many special nieces, nephews and friends.

Ray was born in Kitchener Waterloo to American born parents, so he had dual citizenship for many years. He attended Fenn College in Cleveland, and then graduated in 1954 from Wayne University in Detroit with a BSc in Business Admin, Major in Advertising & Marketing. At the time he was planning to join the military in the US, but opportunity knocked in Canada so he decided to pursue his career and his sweetheart, Mary, whom he married in Hamilton in 1955 and settled in Toronto.

Ray was a dedicated family man who spent countless weekends skiing and socializing at the family chalet in Mansfield. He always had a project on the go at the chalet and managed to get his daughters (and Mary!) to help him on the weekends. An extension was put on the chalet and it was truly the family hub for every weekend, complete with skiing, tobogganing, tennis, swimming and BBQ’s. Every Christmas was magical for kids and adults alike. He honed his painting skills in the hills of Mulmur and every vacation he took with Mary. He was never without his easel, paints and canvas painter bag. He sold numerous paintings whether through auctions or art studios in Creemore and many of his watercolours adorn homes in the area.

Ray loved his routines including daily workouts at his fitness club or morning walks on the beach. He skied until the age of 83, and played tennis until Covid hit (age 88), always keeping active. He was an avid reader and lover of crossword puzzles. Ray had a strong sense of adventure and loved to travel. Ray always made time for volunteer work. He devoted many years as a Board Member for the Junior Diabetes Society and for St. John’s Ambulance. He was also a past President of Mansfield Ski Club. Ray also found time to do some acting in tv commercials in his later years.

Ray worked in the MAD MEN era of advertising and embraced it. Starting his career working with Colgate Palmolive, he moved to Darcy Advertising and then later to McConnell Advertising. He then finally opened his own ad shop KUNDINGER ADVERTISING with the slogan “You can call me Ray”. He loved the business! He made many friends in the industry and formed relationships with peers and clients that have lasted his lifetime.

Ray brought us joy with his quiet strength and love of life through the eyes of an optimist. He was a gentleman to all who knew him. He always looked forward and never dwelt on the past, good or bad. His typical response to 'How are you?" was 'FAN-tastic!" or "Tickety-boo". We will miss his little chuckles, his creative card playing (wink wink) and the messy kitchen after he carved the turkey! Most of all, we will miss his love and support we have enjoyed for so many years! Ray was a well-loved man who got the most out of each and every day!

Visitation to be held at Pine Hills Funeral Home Monday Dec 12,at 10 am with Service to follow at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to Michael Garron Hospital or Providence Healthcare.

To my dear friends:

Ray, you and Mary were always there for myself and my family. You always included myself and Yvonne and always had kind words and a hug when I really needed it. You will forever be in my heart. Talked to Ildiko today and we were reminiscing about our time in Village Greenway and all the shenanigans we kids used to get up to. Safe journey my friend, sending much love to all of you. Love always, Andrea, Ildiko and Yvonne.
