In memory of

Pravinchandra Patel

January 3, 1948 -  August 20, 2017

After a lengthy battle with lung cancer, Pravin passed away peacefully, at the age of 69, surrounded by his family at Bethell Hospice in Inglewood, Canada on the beautiful, sun-drenched afternoon of August 20, 2017. Beloved son of Keshavlal and Kunvarbhen, Pravin was born and raised in the village of Kanz in Gujarat, India. Even in his early years, Pravin was known to be a fiercely loyal and generous brother and friend. He left Kanz to attend university in Gujarat and received his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts before getting married in 1974 and starting his adventures in Canada. He lived in several places in Ontario including Lindsay, Brampton, Ottawa, and Sault Ste. Marie; and in Millsboro, Delaware in the U.S.

Pravin was predeceased by his father in 1992 and his mother in 2011, and is survived by his devoted wife of 43 years, Pushpa. Dear father of Purvi (Julian Yun), Kaushal (Andrew Yang), and Barkha (Adam Spence) and proud grandfather of Jayden and sweet Kieran, his sleeping angel who departed this world too soon on November 7, 2016. Pravin will be greatly missed by his loving siblings Dr. Vishnu Patel, Samubhen Patel, Gitabhen Patel, and Kanchanbhen Patel and their extended families.

A prolific reader, Pravin was habitually in the middle of a book or magazine. He enjoyed sharing his ideas and opinions with those he knew well and those newly met. He was an avid collector of stamps and coins, as well as a talented bridge player. He relished the company of family and friends which would often involve loud evenings of conversation, cards, and food. He will be remembered for his strong personality, ability to connect with people, and his giving nature and genuine smile.

Pravin's family extends its everlasting gratitude to his dedicated, warm, and compassionate medical team, including support staff, nurses, and doctors associated with the Bethell Hospice Foundation and Brampton Civic Hospital. Visitation and funeral services will be held at theMeadowvale Cemetery, Cremation & Funeral Centre, 7732 Mavis Road, Brampton on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 10 a.m. Private cremation to follow at 12 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice or to the Bethell Hospice Foundation.

I first learned about Pravin kaka from stories shared by my husband, Pravin kaka's nephew, Anand. I learned how Pravin kaka was one of his caretakers and introduced Anand to hockey card collection. He was the uncle with a strong personality, but who was generous and always treated Anand in a special way. I also got to experience his generosity and his open acceptance when I first got to meet him. I wish we would have had more time to get to know each other better. You will be missed kaka!
