In memory of

Polly Youngberg

November 25, 1950 -  January 7, 2023

It is with deep sorrow and much love that the family of Paulette “Polly” Youngberg mourns her passing on the evening of January 7th, 2023 at the age of 72. Following a lengthy battle with cancer, our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend passed away peacefully at Hospice Vaughan, with her son Shaun and daughter-in-law Hanna at her side.

Polly was predeceased by her husband Robert “Bob” Youngberg in 2014, whom Polly described as the love of her life and soul mate, as well as her father Jean Gaudreau and brother Peter. She will be lovingly remembered by her children Shaun (Hanna) and Adria, along with her brother Paul (Margot), sister Kathleen, her Aunt Fran, her stepchildren Jennifer (Bob) and Mark (Pamela), her grandchildren Carter, Alexis, Dana, Oben, Benjamin, Jacob and Timothy, along with countless friends.

Polly will be remembered by her family, friends and co-workers as a caring, generous, and loving person, who always thought of others first. Whether it was at home or in the office, Polly always ensured she had sweets available for everyone around her, despite being diabetic and unable to share in the treats.

Polly was a strong, independent mother, raising two children primarily as a single parent, including a daughter with special needs, while working full-time to ensure they had every opportunity in life. She loved her trips to the casino, riding with Bob in his convertible and spending weekends with her daughter. She was an avid shopper and loved her dinners at Mandarin, Swiss Chalet and more recently Wimpy’s, with family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Thursday January 12th at Mount Pleasant Cemetery Funeral Centre, beginning at 12pm, with a memorial service and interment to commence at 1pm. A reception to celebrate Polly’s life and share memories with family and friends will follow.

The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at Hospice Vaughan and Sunnybrook Hospital for their care and compassion during these past 14 months. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Hospice Vaughan at https://www.hospicevaughan.com/new-how-to-donate/.

Polly is extremely special to all of us. She was always kind, considerate, and generous. She cared for us like a mom and listened to us like a friend. We are so blessed to have her as part of our lives. Her memories will always live in our heart.

I worked with Polly at Snowbush for a number of years. She was wonderful to work with and always a pleasure to chat with. I am sorry for you loss. She was a wonderful person.

It's really sad when a wonderful person passes away. Polly was always 100% positive and 100% helpful. I can't remember a single time she ever complained, and I can't remember a single negative thing she ever said about another. I will miss the visitation as I will be taking my wife for Chemotherapy on Jan. 12; otherwise I would be there. I sincerely express my condolences to the family as Polly talked about you often, and the extent of her love for her family was obvious and immense.

For more than 15 years Polly was the best mother in law anyone could ask for. She was generous with her time and love and our family enjoyed her company immensely. Her home was a welcoming place and her holiday dinners were legendary. She was close with her grandchildren and always took an interest in their lives. Even though in recent years I did not see her often, her presence will be missed. It's very sad that she had to leave this world so soon as she had so much more living to do. Rest in peace, Polly.
