It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of Phyllis Beverley Lorett (aka Nan/Nanny) at the age of 95. She passed peacefully on the morning of March 31, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on September 9, 1930, and was a devoted wife to her husband, Jack, for 64 wonderful years— a partnership built on love, commitment, and shared memories that stood as a true example to all who knew them. She was also a proud and loving mother, a cherished grandmother, and a beloved great-grandmother whose legacy will live on through generations. She helped raise her grandchildren and was there for every family milestone, big or small, always making those around her feel loved, supported, and at home.
Phyllis was the heart and matriarch of her family—strong, fierce, and never one to put up with anybody’s nonsense. If you knew our family, you knew our Mom/Nanny, she was bold, opinionated, and loved her family and friends deeply. She had your back no matter what and had a remarkable way of befriending anyone she met. Her humour, kindness, strength, and unwavering presence are what she will always be remembered for and for the way she brought people together.
She found immense happiness in time spent with loved ones and her home was a place where everyone was welcome. Summers were spent gathered around her pool where she helped teach countless friends, neighbourhood kids, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren to swim. While summer weekends were reserved for the cottage, making lifelong memories with her family. She stayed young at heart by doing puzzles and spending time on her front porch with neighbours from her beloved little Darcel corner. She loved bringing people together through her cooking, especially during the holidays with her traditional turkey dinners, which became treasured memories. Not to mention she was a devoted fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs, hardly ever missing a hockey game and cheering them on through every season regardless of how terrible they were doing. She loved to laugh, and above all, loved her family with everything she had.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and is survived by her children Beverley (Jay), John, Christopher (Sherry), loved and missed by her grandchildren Jade (Stephen), Jessica (Ryan), Jennifer (Martin), Krista, Austin, Susie, Jason, Nathan and great grand-children Izabella, Joseph, Chelsea, Kendall, Jewel, Juliet and Javier, along with extended family and dear friends who will miss her deeply. She was predeceased by Jack and Susan whom she now joins once again.
A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday April 9th from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at THE SIMPLE ALTERNATIVE FUNERAL CENTRE- MISSISSAUGA 1535 South Gateway Road (at Dixie Road, two lights south of Eglinton) 905-602-1580 where family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and honour the incredible life she lived.
