Obituary - Phoebe Young-Kwok
Our Mom had learned to love the Lord through our grandfather since she was very young. As a young teen, she was so eager to learn God’s words that she attended the bible school for a year. In her early twenties she went to nursing school and became a nurse, was passionate with her work in serving her patients in the hospital until she started a family. Then she dedicated her life to her family loving all her four children dearly as they grew up. She had willingly and tirelessly taken up all the daily chores at home so her children could fully focus on their studies at school. She walked closely with the Lord and had taught her children to love Him more than loving anyone else in their future.
Mom had fully enjoyed her life in Canada, especially when she helped caring for many of her nine grandchildren with tender loving care when they were little, for Jan, Anne and Ken as well. She was active in their lives, teaching each of them to be a well-behaved kid. She loved making yummy food and snacks, mainly steamed cakes and dimsum for her hungry grandkids and she was particularly patient in patching up their worn-out socks, as if she was working on her beautiful embroidery. She had been a generous and loving grandma to each and every one of her grandchildren as they were growing up. She often insisted to treat her grandchildren to expensive meals. At the age of 89, Mom had recovered from a stroke. God is so merciful and gracious in caring for her through the ordeal and miraculously restoring her mobility after 6 months of rehab. Vivien has had patiently encouraged her on the road of recovery, as her primary care-giver during the 12 years thereafter.
She had been so blessed through her golden years, with Dad and her children as well as grown-up grandchildren, often from out-of-town/country, calling her up or dropping by to spend time with her, bringing her out to parks/museums, keeping her smiling/laughing and entertained. She was so full of life and loved to count her blessings every day.
Since 10 year ago, Mom had been elevated to the status of a loving great-grandmother of 5 great-grandchildren to-date. With all 4 generations together (四代同堂), it is an extremely rare occurrence and, in Chinese culture, it was considered as super “fookhee” (福氣), meaning ’showers of blessings’. She was indeed showered with the joy of seeing not only the three great-grandchildren in town but also the other two, who have been travelling from the other side of the globe every year since birth to visit and bond with their ‘Tai PawPaw’ (太婆婆).
We are very proud of our Mom, who had experienced the biggest challenges in the last few months of her long blessed life. She had courageously face her challenges in her declining health without any complaint. She was a rare COVID-19 survivor at the age of 101, grateful to the Almighty God who has kept her in company and granted her healing too. He has amazingly healed her also of her pneumonia after COVID-19. Our dearest Mom was finally blessed with having Vivien by her side during the last days of her journey.
Mom, we love you, we miss you, beyond all measures. Thank you for all your love, your sacrifice and the fond memories. We are most comforted knowing that you are now resting in peace with Dad and our Heavenly Father.
“Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever”. Psalm 23:6
