Peter Walter Kowalchuk - March 23, 1923-April 17, 2014

Peter passed away peacefully April 17, 2014 at 91 years of age. Loving husband of 59 years to Betty, and predeceased by her December 28, 2012. Peter was a generous and passionate father to Brian, Karen (Stephen) and Sheila (Stewart). He will be dearly missed by his grandchildren Nicholas, Kelsey, Natasha and Colin. He is survived by his brothers James, Paul and Bob. Born in Goodeve, Saskatchewan Peter grew up in a large Ukrainian family on the great prairie farm. His stories of life and duress in the new land were always entertaining. Throughout his life, Peter kept in touch with all his family wherever they might be. Peter’s first profession was teaching school in rural Saskatchewan. Following World War II, he graduated from the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Toronto. After marrying Betty, he began dental practice in 1953. Later, he was further engaged as a part-time clinical instructor at the Faculty of Dentistry, a commitment he maintained for 27 years. Peter and Betty made some of their fondest memories while travelling to distant lands for dental conventions. Peter was an enthusiastic innovator, both at work and at home. He enjoyed being active and golfed well into his later years. He loved to entertain his friends and family and always found humour to complement his wry observations of how the world works. A memorial service will be held at Pine Hills Cemetery and Visitation Center at 625 Birchmount Road in Toronto on Thursday April 24th. The family welcomes visitors starting at 1:00 pm and the service will be at 2:00 pm. Light refreshments will follow. In lieu of flowers, you may send donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
