In memory of
Peter Palmer
June 28, 1932 -
July 8, 2021
It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the peaceful passing of Peter Samuel Palmer in his 90th year on Thursday July 8, 2021. Beloved husband to Joan (nee Erswell) of 67 years, loving Father to Ian (Cindy) and Neil (Teri) and doting Grandfather to Victoria, Matthew, Ashley and Michael. Predeceased by his parents, Samuel and Vera (nee Bradley), sisters Pauline (Bill) and Pamela (Fred). He will also be dearly missed by extended family and friends in England.
Born June 28th, 1932 in Knowle, England, Peter’s early childhood was shaped by The Depression and the Second World War. He spent his childhood and adolescence playing soccer and competing in road races with the local cycling club. At the age of 14, he left school and began his apprenticeship to become a Pattern Maker, working with many of the major car manufacturers located in Warwickshire. Later on, he fulfilled his obligations in the National Service with the Royal Air Force as a vehicle and heavy equipment mechanic from 1951 – 1954. In the 1960’s, Pete established his own company, “Ideal Patterns” and flourished in a very competitive market.
Peter immigrated with his family to Ontario, Canada in 1969 in search of new challenges. They lived in London, and later settled in the Greater Toronto Area. He established a second successful business “Supreme Patterns and Moulds” in 1976, which he owned and operated with his son, Neil. One of the legacies of this company of which he was particularly proud, was a sundial, which is permanently located on the grounds of the University of Toronto campus. Peter had a successful and rewarding career as a Pattern Maker for over seventy years.
During his 50+ years in Canada, Pete enjoyed travelling, renovating his vacation homes and spending time with family and friends. He was restless by nature, so always had a project on the go. His friends and family will remember him fondly for his caring demeanor, passion for woodworking and heartfelt stories of his past, which he enjoyed sharing with others.
The Palmer family would like to offer their sincere thanks and gratitude to Dr. R. Davey, Dr. Juhi Hussain, Dr. Takar, Nurse practitioners Mandeep Dosanjh, Dorine Agendia and the Personal Support workers at Spectrum for their tremendous support and tender care of Pete during his time of need. A celebration of life will be held at a later date (Subject to Covid-19 regulations). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum in Hamilton, Ontario.
