In memory of

Pauline McKenzie

November 30, 1945 -  April 12, 2024

After a long struggle with Parkinson’s Disease, Pauline passed away peacefully at North York General Hospital surrounded by her family.
Pauline is survived by her husband Alan, her sons Michael and Peter (Carly) and her beloved grandchildren, Emma, Julia, Olivia, and Finley. Her brother, Martin Humphries, and many relatives and friends mourn her and will miss her friendship.
Pauline came to Toronto from Dorsetrshire England at age 10 with her parents Sydney and Monica Humphries and her brother Martin and sister Ruth. Pauline met Alan while working part time at Loblaws. It was the start of a 60-year love story.
Pauline was enthusiastic about education. She went to night school to earn her degrees and was proud when Michael and Peter earned theirs. Pauline was a first-rate educator. Over the course of her career, she instructed students in every grade from 3 to 13, adult students finishing their diplomas and university courses and other teachers aspiring to become administrators. She even taught Alan to spell a little bit better though that was a challenge. Pauline was proud to be Vice Principal and then Principal of Jarvis Collegiate Institute from 1996 until she retired in 2004.
Pauline was a world traveller. She and Alan visited every Province in Canada and enjoyed over fourteen voyages on cruise ships. Her motto was “Always Experience new Experiences.”
Pauline loved to sing and was a member of the Asbury and West United Church Choir, the Jubilate Singers, and the retired teachers Choristers choir. Pauline was a wonderful cook, cake, and dessert maker. She loved family celebrations. Everyone went home full and with leftovers for the next day.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Parkinson Canada, Toronto Foundation for Student Success, or the charity of your choice.
A Celebration of Pauline’s life will take place on Saturday April 27, 2024. Visitation 9:00 a.m. Service 10:00 a.m. with reception to follow. Internment (immediate family)

I have very fond memories of Pauline as a work colleague and as a member of the same church congregation. She gave great work- and personal guidance, which I'll always remember and appreciate. We were sorry to learn of her passing and we hope that happy memories will help her husband Alan, and other family members, to cope.

I am so sorry for Pauline's Family.
Pauline was an amazing influence on me to positively follow the Principal pathway.
She was warm, caring, and took the time to speak with anyone.
My deepest condolences to all.

Pauline was a force to be reckoned with and a powerful role model for me as I began my second career as a teacher at Jarvis Collegiate. Thank you Pauline.

Pat Keating (Fellow Jubilate Singers choir member)

Entered April 25, 2024

I liked Pauline very much and appreciated her years of support for our choir. She was a Board member who took on extra tasks and gave generously of her time in many ways - including volunteering Alan's help with our concerts! We were sorry when she could no longer continue with us, but always wished her well.
Our heartfelt thoughts are with Alan and her family at this difficult time.
Pat Keating, President, Jubilate Singers

Pauline was an excellent Principal. She gave strong support to Jarvis academic traditions, and to both teachers and students. It was a great pleasure to teach under her leadership.
