In memory of

Paul Christopher Smith

November 24, 1953 -  November 6, 2021

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Paul Christopher Smith November 6, 2021 at Southlake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket at the age of 67. Paul had been diagnosed with stage four Colorectal Cancer in November of 2020, and until recently had held the cancer at bay. Complications from the unrelenting disease ultimately ended his courageous battle. Paul was a beloved husband of 33 years to Judy McIntyre-Smith, a cherished step-father to Brent Miller, loving brother to Darlene Floyd (Steve) and Edward Smith (Shiona), proud uncle to Nicole Floyd and Gary Madden (Michelle), and ‘gramps’ to Ellen and Olivia Miller. Predeceased by parents Christopher (Bud) Smith, Gladys Smith (Crabbe), brother-in-law Steve Floyd, and niece Brandi Smith. He was also a great-uncle to Sienna and Scarlett.

Paul was adored by many, and will be remembered for his big personality, yet humble and disarming presence. Paul had a great sense of humor, thoughtful soul and caring demeanor. He always put others ahead of himself. Paul had an endearing love of animals and nature. He had an eclectic sense of style, with a lifelong learner approach to all his interests in art, music, photography, birding, gardening, pop culture, and of course every sport on earth. He will be greatly missed by family and countless friends and former colleagues. The family would like to express their gratitude to the many physicians, nurses and support workers that cared for Paul, with special thank you to Dr. Shaqil Kassam, Dr. Alisha Kassam and Dr. Michael Liauw.

In keeping with Paul’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial visitation will be held at Elgin Mills Funeral Centre, 1591 Elgin Mills Road East, Richmond Hill on Sunday, November 21 at 1 pm followed by a memorial service at 2 pm.

***Please note all guests must be fully vaccinated and provide proof of vaccination and photo ID to attend the gathering. Capacity is restricted to 195 people maximum.***

For those who wish to participate via live stream, a link will appear on this page at 1:30pm.

Donations in Paul’s memory can be made to Southlake Regional Health Centre/Stronach Cancer Centre or Ontario SPCA and Humane Society.

A man for all seasons……. Paul lived life big and did it all …..from a rambunctious lively sports enthusiast to a quiet reflective photographer, birder, gardener, and lover of life who tried new things!
He was a wonderful son and brother & I saw that and admired this greatly. He admired and loved Jude and of course we were in total agreement there.
He had many friends because of his many interests ! He will be missed but never forgotten.
When I see the wonder & beauty of nature, I will feel the joy a little more intensely because I can and I think of Paul.
My sincerest condolences to Jude and his extended family and friends. Xo

We are so sad to see Paul go through all he did. He fought till the end. Never asked for help. He was an amazing neighbour and such a laugh to be around. We will miss Paul dearly but know is he in a better place free of pain.

Love Mike, Sheri and family
