In memory of

Patricia Tucker

October 15, 1927 -  October 2, 2021

Patricia Tucker had the extraordinary gift of inspiring love. She was her husband’s emotional centre and her two daughters’ lodestar. She was a dear friend to many, particularly her chosen ‘sister’, Lizbeth. Pat listened carefully. She won trust. She demonstrated her concern for others in so many ways, generously sharing her joy, grace, and gentle wisdom.

Born in Edinburgh on 15 October 1927, Pat was fraternal twin to her brother Alan. She suffered tragedy when her adored older brother Peter, a Royal Air Force pilot, was killed during World War 2 in 1944 . But her spirited nature lifted up others, especially her mother, with whom she remained close throughout her life.

Pat emigrated to Canada in 1956, where she met her future husband Tom, in Toronto. It was a true love match and they married on a bright, chilly day in early March 1957. In the following year, Susan Anne came into their lives, followed by Berta 3 years later.

Pat was Tom’s partner in every sense - instinctively, she was able to provide guidance when it was most needed and support in decision making. She was a creator, and a collector of flowers, of miniatures, and most importantly, of friendships.

Pat’s counsel to her husband, daughters and friends was simple: there is no need to define yourself against societal norms. Be yourself, and you’ll be happy.

Pat made the world lighter, more beautiful, and more expressive. No words can faithfully capture what she gave to her family, friends, and those she encountered. No tribute can express the love Tom and Pat had for each other, or the extent of Tom’s loss.

What a beautiful tribute to Pat! I was one of the lucky ones to be her friend. We had so many happy times together and I'm filled with sadness realizing she is no longer with us. Thinking of her family during this very sad time.

I’ve always thought of Pat as a lovely woman. The only time we met was when Berta and Andrew were married, when she graciously entertained us in her home. Years later, when our daughter was born, she sent two beautiful yarn dolls that she’d made by hand, which were prized by Peri for years. Such a kind gift to people she hardly knew. May she rest in peace.

What a lovely gentle soul - a life filled with love and shared experiences. Such a beautiful expression of what it is to be human. Thank you for sharing and my thoughts and prayers are with her, and you.

Pat was a loving, thoughtful and inspirational friend. She had the ability to put others well before herself, and to love selflessly. She was witty, kind, generous, cheerful and optimistic. She was a beacon of hope and full of goodness. We shall miss her dearly, and cherish her in our thoughts, not just at this time, but for all the years to come.

Our deepest condolences to Tom, Sue and Berta, and all the family.
