In memory of

Paolo Cini

September 10, 1940 -  November 28, 2025

After a courageous struggle with Parkinson’s disease, Paolo Cini, 85, passed away peacefully at his home on the morning of November 28, 2025 in Toronto, Canada. Paolo was born in Livorno, Italy. It was in Italy that Paolo met the love of his life, William (Bill) Leffler. This was the start of a vibrant relationship that lasted over six decades. They resided for a time in Paris, France, then in the 1970s, they made their way to Montreal, then settled in Toronto, where Paolo helped to manage the Hospital for Sick Children Foundation.

Bill and Paolo lived very fulfilling lives. Because of their hard work, they were able to enjoy vacation homes in Livorno and later, Fort Lauderdale. They travelled extensively, having been around the world twice and visiting about 80 countries. They were very generous and went out of their way to please people and make them feel comfortable. They enjoyed entertaining their friends with elaborate dinner parties filled with good food, wine, decor and conversation. It was a treat to be invited to one!
Unfortunately, Bill passed away on August 6, 2025.

All those that knew Paolo would agree that he was a gentleman that touched many people. He will be missed by all that knew him.
A celebration of Paolo’s life will be held at a later date amongst close friends and family members.
In lieu of flowers, if you wish, please make a donation to Covenant House, Toronto.

Bill and Paulo were very good friends, who we will miss.
We will remember the many occasions together, with other friends, sharing their generosity and stories of their lives, well lived.

My late husband and I have been friends with Paolo and Bill for over 34 years. We were fortunate enough to have been invited to their scrumptious dinner parties regularly as well as being their houseguests in their homes in Livorno and in Fort Lauderdale. They were extremely gracious hosts and generous almost to a fault. As we were in the habit of sleeping in separate beds Bill and Paolo would give us their room to use and they would retreat to their guest room during our stay, such as their willingness to accommodate us. These and countless other thoughtful things they did have endeared themselves in my mind for as long as the rest of my life. I have been extremely blessed to count them as my friends.
