In memory of

Pamela Ada Dzenis

January 24, 1953 -  October 11, 2018

Pamela Ada Dzenis (née Campbell)

Born January 24, 1953 in Carberry, Manitoba. Died peacefully on October 11, 2018, surrounded by family at the EW Bickle Centre for Complex Care in Toronto.

Pam was the youngest child of Jean and Donald H. “Duke” Campbell, and her childhood was spent on ranches and racetracks with some of Canada’s most legendary jockeys and thoroughbreds. As a teenager, her charisma and warmth landed her the title of Prom Queen at Bayview Secondary School--the news coverage of which opened the door to a short-lived modelling career.

In 1973 she met the love of her life, Andy Dzenis. After graduating from the University of Waterloo in 1974, she joined him in Toronto and started her career, first in banking and eventually in market research at A.C. Nielsen. She took a hiatus in the mid-80s to raise two daughters, but returned to the workforce in the 90s with a job in advertising sales at the Town Crier community newspaper. In an era before email, it was a job that demanded face-to-face networking and Pam thrived, becoming a familiar face to many on the bustling Bayview Ave strip in the heart of Leaside.

Travel was a passion that Pam shared not only with Andy but also her friends and daughters. Memorable trips included beach houses in Cape Hatteras, North Carolina; getaways to Sorrento and Carmel-by-the-Sea; family travels throughout France; exploring the homestead in Cardston, Alberta; summers at the cottage with Garry and Dillon; girlfriends’ weekends to Mont Tremblant; a painting tour of Italy; and many, many cross-country road trips with her best friend, Lotta Harasym. Her final adventure was joining Andy on a work assignment in Houston, Texas--over the four years spent there Pam reconnected with her country roots. Afternoons spent in the sun at Galveston Beach were a favourite, especially with Candy dog in tow.

Pam loved cooking and entertaining: she shared recipes with her “Gourmet Club” and raised her family with a curiosity for new tastes and unique ingredients. While she was unable to host dinner parties in her later years, it was always large, boisterous gatherings (including both of her daughters’ weddings) that truly brought Pam to life. Her sense of humour and welcoming smile will be deeply missed.

Pam is survived by her husband, Andy, her daughters Paige (José Lourenço) and Lauren (AJ Amer), her granddaughter, Winnie Lourenço, sister, Darlene Matthews (Ed), and nephew and niece, Donald (Natalie) and Katie Campbell. Pam was predeceased by her brother, Donald J. Campbell. The family is especially grateful to Agnes Bargamento, whose dedication and compassion as Pam’s caregiver made her final years as comfortable and dignified as possible.

Pam’s life will be celebrated on November 2, 2018, at 1 p.m. at the Mount Pleasant Funeral Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada.

Dear Andy, Paige, Lauren and Darlene, I was very saddened to hear of Pam's passing. I will always remember our dreams to be women of the world, when we were in high school! We were all robbed by this horrible illness--with Winnie as her legacy, may her spirit and the beautiful essence of Pam live on
Mark and I are so sorry for your loss; we will be there on Friday, to celebrate her life with you.

Pam and I met a long time ago … on the day, fresh out of university, when we both started our careers at TD Bank. In the years that I remained in Toronto, we were girlfriends in the best sense of the word. We shared all the experiences that best friends have at that age and stage. She was even responsible for the occasion where I met my future husband. And we married our handsome boyfriends within a month of each other, over 41 years ago.
After I left Toronto, we maintained our friendship over many years and many miles of separation. We would share whatever was happening in our lives: from the births and events in the lives of her beautiful daughters to road trips to each other’s home of the moment, be it Halifax or Houston or Kingston, Jamaica. Whenever help was needed, we were there for each other. Whenever I saw her, it was like we had never lived away from each other.
Pam was a beautiful, loyal, bright and independent woman. She was my lifetime best friend and I am sad for her passing, and so sorry for Andy, Paige and Lauren’s loss. I will miss her.

My thoughts are with Pam’s family . We shared so many happy times cooking together and discussing all types of issues around all our tables. Pam always brought a very informed and well read perspective to all current affairs ,while being ready in an instant to join in our laughter and silliness.
Pam was always ready with a recommendation of novels she was reading and I took her advice on many occasions and was the better for it.
No one could compare with Pam's sense of fashion and elegant style. Trim and beautiful , she made any outfit look stunning and then tell us it was a great bargain. Pam discovered great spots with her adventuresome spirit , on her frequent forays into a wide range of Toronto’s shops and markets while carrying out her job in the advertising field. Her family and beloved dog Candy were always brought into our conversations. Fond memories forever. Love from Susan

Dear Andy, Paige and Lauren,
How lucky you were to have Pam as a partner and mother and how sorry I am to hear of your immense loss. We met through Lotta in the early '80's and it was always a good time when we connected.
I have a very fond memory (many, really, but this one in particular) of Pam's style, design sense and creativity. The Toronto contingent (Pam, Andy, Pat, Vlad, me, Pam Casey) gathered in Ottawa for the farewell party when L&B were heading off on their first offshore assignment to Jamaica. There was lots of work to be done on the day of the party, in October as I recall, and we all pitched in. Lotta had bought fresh cut flowers that needed to be arranged and put Pam in charge. Not long after, 2-3 gorgeous displays were complete, with all of us slack jawed. Pam had gone into the yard to gather boughs, branches and whatever caught her magnificent eye to transform fabulous displays of fall's splendour among the fresh cut flowers. Here, as always, Pam modelled the elegance of simplicity and beauty.
I am sorry that I can't be with you later this week. She was such a gem, I remember how she laughed and she was indeed, very well loved. Peace be with you all. xoxo Clair
