In memory of
PATRICIA ANGELITA MONGE-TOBON
October 2, 1951 -
March 29, 2023
Patricia Angelita Monge-Tobon was born on October 2, 1951, in the city of Guayaquil, Ecuador. She was the daughter of the industrialist Vicente Monge [deceased] and his wife, Doctor Corina Gonzalez Vda [deceased]. She completed her primary and high school education at Colegio Español and then enrolled at the "Speedwriting Institute," where she completed three years of general secretarial studies. Later, she transferred to the Catholic University of Santiago, Guayaquil, where she began her studies in architecture. Even though architecture was her passion, she chose to take a hiatus from her three years of studies to travel to Canada, arriving in Toronto, Ontario on April 1, 1972. There she began her struggles as a new immigrant, seeing many hopes and dreams born and extinguished.
We will briefly mention some aspects of Patricia's life here in Canada. She was married to Mr. Eyban Tobón and was the mother of two children, José Vicente and Raúl Enrique, to whom she dedicated the best portions of her life. In the late 80s and 90s, she worked in the travel and tourism industry for the travel company "Joe Garisto Travel," where she excelled as a Sales Consultant. She used her multilingual skills in English, Italian, and Spanish to coordinate travel and tourism contracts for the Italian and Spanish-speaking communities of the Greater Toronto Area.
Despite her valuable services to the community in the aforementioned areas, it is necessary to add something else to her obituary, such as her social contributions to Canadian society. Throughout the 90’s she was a key member of the Board of Directors of the "Ontario Working Women's Community Centre," a position she attained due to her outstanding executive skills and dedication to serving the underprivileged classes, whom she served to the best of her abilities. This added a star to her list of accomplishments, which helped to illuminate her career and social work in Ontario.
Mrs. Patricia Angelita Monge-Tobon, the time has come to close this final chapter of your noble existence. Even though you were afflicted with illness in your elder years, know that you had become an exemplary case for future generations of immigrants who come to Canada in search of a better life. With heavy hearts, we bid you farewell, our beloved friend, mother and grandmother of seven [7] grandchildren. [R.E.T]
