In memory of

Owen Kavanagh

October 20, 1932 -  June 21, 2019

Owen T. Kavanagh, age 86, of Toronto, Ontario, Canada passed away in the early hours of the morning on Friday June 21, 2019. Born October 20, 1932, in Malvern Jamaica, he was the son of Austin Kavanagh and Marjorie Holness.

Owen was an avid athlete as a young man, playing football (soccer) for his high school. After graduation, he moved to England for a few years and returned to Jamaica where he ran a number of general stores throughout the country. Upon emigrating to Canada, he started off working for a car dealership and then a furniture store. The entrepreneur in Owen continued to thirst for his own business and he opened a store specializing in floor and window coverings. Over the years this expanded into a general contracting business that he ran until he was in his mid-70’s.

Owen was a kind, stoic man well respected for his grace and generous nature. In his spare time, he enjoyed traveling, sports, politics and spending time with his family.

Owen is survived by his brother Elton Kavanagh and his wife Raymonde Kavanagh, his daughters Laura Kavanagh and her spouse Daniel Gordon and Paula Kavanagh and her partner Jeffery Williams; and many loving nieces, nephews, and relatives.

There will be a visitation with the family from 1:00 until 2:00 PM followed by a celebration of life service for Owen Kavanagh at 2:00 PM, Friday June 28, 2019 at the Elgin Mills Funeral Centre on 1591 Elgin Mills Rd E, Richmond Hill, ON L4S 1M9. There will be a reception at the Centre immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Parkinson’s Canada.

Laura, Dan, Paula, Jeffrey, and family,

We were sad to hear of Owen’s passing. We had the pleasure of socializing with him on a few occasions and will fondly remember him as a soft spoken, kind hearted gentleman. We know how much you all loved and cared for him so this must be a difficult time. We are confident that you cherish all the memories of good times with him as time passes. Our condolences to all of you. Hugs. Jennifer and Mark

It was always a pleasure to meet and talk with Owen and when you left his company you always felt better for having spent time with him. In his latter years his health burden was onerous we know but he never complained, leastwise not that we were aware of. May he rest in peace. You will be missed Owen!
