In memory of

Orta Cacis

August 30, 1926 -  January 18, 2021

August 30, 1926 - January 18, 2021

Orta passed away in her 94th year due to Covid-19, and was predeceased by her husband, Stanislavs, and her dear sister, Ilona. Orta was a loving mother to Inta and Sandra, and a cherished aunt to Uldis and Juris in the USA, and Inese in Latvia.

Fondly remembered by friends in Canada, the USA and Latvia, Orta enjoyed long term friendships; and up until her passing, spent her days speaking with friends and relatives, in Canada and abroad. Orta possessed a gentle nature and cared deeply about the people in her life. Birthdays and names days were never forgotten. Orta appreciated simple pleasures such as enjoying the beauty and fragrance of floral gifts which bloomed in her room at Scarborough Retirement Residence. She nurtured friendships with birds, first a Cardinal while still residing in her home, then the pigeons at the retirement residence. Being the curious sort, Orta found observing the comings and goings of the residents from both her condo and retirement room, interesting entertainment at times. Orta was appreciative of her surroundings and the care she received from the staff at the retirement residence.

Orta was born in Riga, Latvia and immigrated to Canada in 1950. She was a working mother and later in life, was a member of the Women’s Committee of the St. Andrew’s Evangelical Lutheran Latvian congregation. Later, she became the secretary of the Toronto Latvian Pensioner’s Association committee.

Orta enjoyed her Thursdays at the Latvian Centre attending pensioner’s activities while staying informed on Latvian politics. A great pleasure was attending musical concerts at the Centre.

The service will include a virtual live streaming Friday, January 22, 2021. Viewing will be at 1:00 PM, service at 1:30 PM, and interment to follow. Live streaming can be viewed at 1:20pm, there will be a link at the top of the memorial page for guests to click on at that time.
