In memory of
蔡愛芳女士 Oi Fong Choy
October 30, 1942 -
August 17, 2016
Oi Fong Choy passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2016, surrounded by her four children, a house full of relatives, and an abundance of love. Diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia in 2014, she was stoic and resilient despite enduring chemo, countless needles and transfusions. She never complained or exhibited any bitterness about her illness and had the grit to outlive the timeframe that many medical experts guided us to expect, by well over a year.
Born in Guandong province, Oi Fong spent her childhood in China and moved to Hong Kong in her teens. She married Wai Sum Lam in 1964, and moved to Canada in 1972 to provide a better life for their children: Chor-Yi Lam (Kenny Foo), Chor-Shan Lam (Don Watson), Lung-Ming Lam (Lorraine Ohashi) and Kar-Wei Lam (Peter Pressacco). She had seven treasured grandchildren: Jordan, Brennan, Adam, Kate, Madison, Grace and Gavin.
Oi Fong was an extremely hard worker, often working multiple hospitality jobs to provide for her family. She was extremely proud that all her children graduated from university, especially given that she herself was not afforded even a grade school education. She was extremely selfless, always putting the needs of others before her own. Oi Fong loved simple pleasures likes gardening, sewing, being with her family, and finding a great deal!
Oi Fong will be desperately missed by her children and grandchildren. She also leaves her siblings: Man Fong, Chot Kwong, Pui Fong, Yew Fong, Suet Fong and their spouses.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Dr. Andre Schuh and team at Princess Margaret Hospital, as well as the compassionate Drs. Victor Cellarius and Jennifer Shapiro and team at Temmy Latner Palliative Care.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care. To make a donation, please click on the "Make a Donation" link below, or go to www.tlcpc.org.
