In memory of

Norman Dominic Fernandes

October 2, 1941 -  January 27, 2022

Norman Dominic Fernandes was born on October 2nd, 1941, to (late) George and Lucy Fernandes in Karachi, Pakistan, the elder of two brothers. He was predeceased by his younger brother Quinton and his wife (late) Grace Fernandes.

In his youth he thoroughly enjoyed sports activities and was captain of cricket and field hockey teams, often seen bicycling enthusiastically from one sporting event to another.

In 1961 he met the Love of his life, June Fernandes, whom he married after a 5 year long courtship on October 16, 1966. Another 55 years of wedded bliss would follow.

Norman and June were blessed with an only child, Jason, his parent’s pride and joy, whom he doted on till his very last day.

Norman began his career in State Life Insurance where he worked for several years before immigrating with his wife and son to Toronto, Canada in 1981. After completing an 18-month diploma program in computer programming and design, he worked hard at several jobs before finally joining Toronto Police 1987. Here he would proudly serve until his retirement in 2015, 28 years later.

Norman enjoyed trips with family and friends around the world, and the many trips with June, Jason & Jessica to his all-time favorite destination, Fallsview Casino, which must definitely be missing his patronage.

A devout Catholic, Norman would lead his family in daily Rosary, attended Sunday Masses and later daily TV Mass. Throughout his life, especially in the last few years while he battled various illnesses and until the very end, his deep faith was unwavering.

Norman was an extrovert, loved talking to people, making friends wherever he went, laughing and joking all the way. A kind, loving and generous man, is what many if his friends would describe him as.
Always passionate about good, flavorful food, Norman especially enjoyed desserts!

Indeed, his joy for living, his deep love for June and Jason, helped him conquer cancer 3 times and his heartfelt desire to live his last days at home was granted. He died peacefully in his sleep on January 27th, 2022 in the early hours of the morning, with Jason, June, Jessica and his dedicated caregivers by his side.

He will be deeply missed by his beloved wife June, devoted son Jason & Jessica, his niece Shannon and grand nephew Ethan, nieces and nephews, godchildren, cousins, relatives and friends.

Eternal Rest Grant unto Norman, oh Lord, Let the Perpetual Light shine upon him. May his soul rest in eternal peace 🙏 ❤

Norman was raised in a close knit, loving family by his dad, I remember big, quiet U. Georgie with an ever ready hug, his ever smiling mom, we all know as A. Lucy and his always jovial brother Quentin. Norman would take me often on his trusty Vespa to visit them. It was always a fun time. That same love, he gave to June and Jason. Our faith tells us Norman has simply moved on to a better place, where his mom, dad, Quentin and Gracie were welcoming him with open arms. Rest In Peace Norman.🙏
