Norma Eileen Smith (nee McEwan)

Passed away peacefully at the Michael Garron Hospital, Toronto on Thursday, January 18, 2018 in her 85th year. Predeceased by her parents George and Jessie McEwan, her husband Alexander, her sister Edith Moffatt and her brothers Jim, Bill and Albert.

Devoted mother to Cathy (David Windross), Stephen (Mary) and Heather (Martin Tovey). Caring grandmother to Richard (Tanya), Jennifer (Allan), Lauren, Carolyn, Joshua, and Katelyn. Proud great-grandmother to Rhys, Curtis, Rhett and Corey.

A close friend, companion, euchre and cribbage partner to Bert Hawkins and to the late Ralph Farrell. Also, a lifelong friend to Aileen Mahoney, both of whom supported each other in good and bad times for over 60 years.
Mom enjoyed a rich and fulfilling career in the insurance industry where she started in 1949 with Muntz and Beatty Insurance Brokers in Toronto and remained with this firm for the next 45 years until her retirement. After retirement Mom became a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 345 where she was a member of various committees including the Executive Committee and Chair of the Membership Committee for many years.

Mom will forever be in our Hearts.

Visitation at Pine Hills Cemetery & Funeral Centre, 625 Birchmount Rd., Scarborough (north of St. Clair Ave. E., 416-267-8229) on Wednesday, January 24th, 2018 from 7:00-9:00pm and on Thursday January 25th , 2018 from 10:00-11:00am with service following from 11:00 -12:00am followed by reception. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice in memory of Norma.
