Noel Frances Ruth Heit

December 25, 1932 - October 11, 2025

Peacefully on Saturday, October 11, at Sunnybrook Hospital. She was born December 25, 1932, in Thunder Bay, Ontario (then Port Arthur) to William John & Margaret Mary Friday (nee Lynch).

She was the last of eight children: Winston, Russel, Jack, Rosemary (died in infancy), Teresa, Monica, and Ann. She was predeceased by her husband Louis Cluthe Heit in 2005 and is survived by her five children: Joseph (Nancy), Andrew, Sally, Matthew, & Ann Marie. Lovingly remembered by five grandchildren: Scott, Glen (Kayla), Rebecca, Elise, & Nicholas, and great-grandchildren Juniper and Hester.

Noel graduated from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing, Port Arthur, in 1954 & U of T School of Nursing Administration in 1956.

In memory of Noel: donations to Operation Smile.

Noel loved her nieces & nephews and they greatly enriched her life.

Aunt Noël was such a unique woman. Always welcoming and friendly, with a breadth of knowledge both diverse and open to the ever changing ways of the world. She was genuinely interested in listening to others and warmly welcomed visitors into her home. Our family has so many fond memories of the Heits travelling to Thunder Bay for a stay at camp where the cousins would form lifelong bonds. My mother, sister and I enjoyed a wonderful week in Cuba with her a few years ago and she was always ready for an adventure. She had the “Friday sense of humour” making for some hilarious moments. With her energy I always felt she would somehow live forever but sadly her time to leave us has come. I loved her so much and will miss her greatly. Even the Sleeping Giant looks sad today.

The coolest aunt anyone could wish for (bought my grade 12 grad dress in Yorkville and sent to Thunder Bay) but beyond that, in a line of brilliant female role models, always prepared to give the best advice, tempered with details of family history which were so important to Noel.
I cherish the memories of shopping with my mom, the three of us spending hours in dressing rooms at The Bay, Noel picking out “good pieces” to try on!

Noel was adored by her children and brought light to everyone whom she met. Her love of life and elegant way of living it was an example to those who were blessed to know her.

Our mother studied nursing with Noel, and they are both from Port Arthur Ontario. Noel and her wonderful family welcomed us 9 kids into their home on many occasions. Her elegance and generosity will be missed. Our condolences to the family.
