In memory of

Nicolae Serghie Laurentiu Serbanescu

April 17, 1932 -  June 12, 2016

NICOLAE SERGIU SERBANESCU passed away on Sunday June 12, 2016 after a very long battle with cancer. He died peacefully in his home in Toronto. He was 84 years of age.
To cherish his memory are his loving wife of 52 years, Maria Doina (nee Roman) devoted and beloved daughter Alina Mihaela, son-in-law Jorge Luis and precious granddaughter Cristina Mihaela.
Nick (Sergiu) was born in 1932 in Romania and established in Canada in 1974. He graduated from the Faculty of Civil Engineering and practiced his profession he very much loved in Bucharest, Tripoli and Edmonton.
He was a passionate chess player and enjoyed making wine, gardening and travel. In his “spare” time he built two family homes and refurbished antique cars.
His family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to the staff at Princess Margaret Hospital for their many years of treatment and care. In addition, for the care he received at home from the many compassionate people who were part of his life in the last few years including Dr. Kevin Bezanson, Joan Palmer, Nigel Forbes, Elizabeth, Marlene and Nena . Many thanks to the volunteers from Hospice Toronto who devoted many hours of their time in the last two years to ease Nick’s suffering.
There will be a memorial visitation at Pine Hills Cemetery and Funeral Centre, 625 Birchmount Rd., Scarborough (416-267-8229) on Thursday, June 30, 2016 from 1:00 – 2:00pm. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm with interment and reception to follow.
Memorial donations may be made to Princess Margaret Hospital or the Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care.

We will all miss Sergio. He always had a twinkle in his eye and you wondered what mischief he was dreaming up. Perhaps a ride on the ATV to do some deer hunting? Or maybe making his latest concoction.? Sergio was a true family man, devoted to Doina, Alina, Cristina and Jorge. He suffered terribly the past two years and we know he is now in peace and watching us from on high. The world has lost a true gentleman.
Love from Elaine, Greg, Julia, Jonathan, Charles and Matt.

From his cousin Rodica Dr in Bucharest:

When Sergiu was working in Ploiesti (his home town) he always ate at a restaurant called NONO. Since that time he was nick named NONO all his life by his relatives.

On June 30th, his relatives will have a service in his honour at his parents’ grave in Ploiesti. They printed Nono on drinking cups which will be donated along with food (coliva traditional for funeral) to people attending .
