In memory of

Nick "Nickolaos" Michanos

January 8, 1921 -  August 2, 2018

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Nick (Nickolaos) Michanos of Toronto at the age of 97. Beloved husband of the late Stella Michanos for 73 years. Cherished father of the late George (Theone) Panakos, Peter (Mary) Michanos, Anna (Ted) Kragaris, Dimitra (John) Telalidis, Olga (Peter) Sofianos, Gina (Eddie) Vicente. Proud grandfather to 19 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He will be lovingly remembered by his sister, Yiota in Greece, and many nieces and nephews.
In 1956, Nick emigrated from Greece to Canada to provide new opportunities for his family. A chef by profession and heart, Nick was a master cheese and yogurt maker, a restaurant owner, and a dedicated chef for the Toronto General Hospital and the Toronto Orthopaedic Hospital until his retirement in 1986.
Nick was a devout Greek Orthodox Christian and served as Deacon at Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church (Toronto) and as the proud President of the Residents’ Council at the Hellenic Home for the Aged (Toronto). He loved cooking and gardening, reading and writing poetry, singing and dancing. As a war veteran and historian, Nick shared many stories of the past with each generation and celebrated time with family. He was known for his sense of humour, adventure, and love of life.
Nick was generous, courageous, and selfless to the end; stoically persevering through his own health challenges to care for his wife who passed on June 26, 2018. He is reunited with Stella, his soul mate, in eternal life. He will be sadly missed, always remembered and will remain in our hearts forever. The family would like to thank the staff at the Hellenic Home for the Aged for their exceptional care and compassion. Memorial donations may be made to the Hellenic Home for the Aged (Toronto) or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Friends and family are welcome for visitation on Monday, August 6, 2018, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the York Funeral Centre, 160 Beecroft Road, Toronto, 416-221-3404. Funeral service on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at 10:00 am at Sts. Panteleimon, Anna & Paraskevi Greek Orthodox Church, 11323 Warden Ave., Markham. Interment to follow at York Cemetery.

I am very saddened by this news but feel assured he is happier and with his life companion, for all eternity. God is with them both and they are together once again. We miss our loved ones but must be comforted knowing there is an eternity that will bring our paths together once more. May he be in peace, joy with Stella , the love of his life. Dear Dimitra, Anna, & Family:
My sincere condolences on the passing of your Dad. It's been no time at all since your beloved Mom died. Sad news but a foregone conclusion that he wouldn't last long without his dedicated wife of 72 years. Such an admirable relationship / commitment.
My heart is with you all. I cannot attend as I am out of town for a few days
I'm truly sorry.
Linda
