In memory of

Nicholas Forbath

May 21, 1929 -  July 4, 2018

Nicholas Forbath MD, M.Sc, FRCPC, FACP

1929-2018

With deep regret, we announce the death of Nick, beloved and loving husband of Anne (Dr. Kenshole) and father to Elizabeth and Christopher on July 4th.

Born in Budapest, he arrived in Toronto as a refugee in 1957 with $5.00 from the Canadian government in his pocket and an offer from Dr. Charles Best to work in his research lab. After obtaining his FRCPC, he joined the team at the world’s first Coronary Care unit at Toronto General Hospital, later specializing in Endocrinology.

A voracious reader and lover of classical music, travel and heavy burgundies, Nick was a Renaissance Man.

In keeping with his wishes, the funeral will be private. Condolences may be sent through www.etouch.ca. If desired, donations to the Medical ICU at Toronto General Hospital would be appreciated.

Please accept my sympathy and deepest condolences. I will always remember Dr. Forbath as a loving, caring, gentle soul and a friend to my parents Louis and Agnes Austerweil. The world is darker, having lost the bright shining light of Dr. Forbath.

Dear Anne and family,
Please accept my sincere sympathy on the passing of Nick. He was a true scholar and will be remembered fondly by all of us who were his students and colleagues. Nick was a inspired teacher and wonderful colleague who will be dearly missed.
Kindest regards,
Cathy Whiteside

Nicholas, or Miklos, was introduced to us by a very intelligent friend as "by far the most intelligent man that I have ever met". Based on the -- alas, too few -- discussions that we've had with him over the years, we accept that judgement as quite sound. A very great loss. Anne and family, please accept our heartfelt condolences.

Dear Anne and family,
Frank and I wish we had more time to get to know Nick better. A very interesting man. We wish you strength in these difficult times.
