After several years of declining health, Nester passed away peacefully at the age of 94 (just shy of 95 by a week). Nester was born in Seaford Town, Westmoreland, Jamaica to the late Oswald and Rose (nee Gardner) Kameka. Predeceased by his siblings: Sidney, Melvin, Marlene, Lola, Lily, Sylvia, Alfred and Marie. Survived by Roy.

Beloved husband of Iris (nee Ulett) and children Marcia (nee Kameka) Maggio (Domenic), Desmond, Joanne and Brenda Kameka. He will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren Natalie (nee Maggio) McKenna (David), Michael Maggio, Desiree (nee Kameka) Galloway (Jeffrey) and Desi Kameka, as well as his great-grandchildren Violet, Graydon McKenna and Lukas Galloway.

Nester immigrated to Canada in October 1951. He first worked in Haliburton at a lumber camp then relocated to Sudbury where he worked for INCO (now called Vale) for 32 years. Nester met his wife (Iris) in Sudbury and married in 1955 and raised their four children. In 1987 he moved to Toronto to be closer to family and worked for a number of years for Steelcase. In his younger years he loved to garden and won awards in Sudbury for his beautiful results. Nester liked puttering around the house doing odd jobs, painting and refinishing furniture. In his senior years Nester lived with various illnesses that he never burdened his family with. Nester was a true gentleman who was quiet, gentle and kind. Nester exemplified the best qualities of his generation, a strong sense of responsibility and a quiet pride in his family.

At Nester’s request there will be NO service but a graveside burial for immediate family only. Interment will be at Pine Hills Cemetery.
