In memory of

Munir Jan

It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we announce the passing of Munir Ahmad Jan in the early hours of Thursday November 10th, 2016, after a long battle with age-related dementia. Munir passed peacefully surrounded by his family, leaving behind his wife Karin, daughter Rubina, son Umar and five beautiful grandchildren.

Born in Delhi, India, at the age of 19 Munir and his parents and siblings survived Partition and migrated to Pakistan to start a new life for themselves. Munir studied Economics at St. Stephens College, worked in Switzerland, Germany and England, and reached a top post at the National Bank. After marrying his wife Karin and having two children, Munir emigrated again to New York with his family, finally settling in Toronto. Munir remained a banker throughout his life, retiring in 1992 after over 40 years of service. After retirement Munir continued his volunteering work by dedicating himself tirelessly to chairing on the Boards of various charities within the Greater Toronto Area for the next 20 years. In 2001 his work was awarded by then Prime Minister Chretien.

Munir spent the last seven years of his life under the devoted care of his wife Karin while remaining in the home he loved.

We wish to thank our community of friends and extended family for all of their love and support during this difficult time. Munir was a man of irreproachable principles and values, he was a loving father, a devoted husband, and a steadfast friend. He ever gave unconditionally of his time and his heart. He will be truly and endlessly missed.

A Psalm of Life
"Tell me not in mournful numbers,
Life is but an empty dream!
For the soul is dead that slumbers,
And things are not what they seem."
