Born on November 20, 1958, Mu Xing Cao grew up in Renhe (人和镇), Guangdong, China, with his five siblings. In his early years, Mu Xing developed a passion for textiles and fashion. Although his sense of fashion was ahead of its time, his wife, Su Qin Li (李素琴), was enamored when they met at the age of 22. A year later, they got married and subsequently had their first child, Elizabeth.

In 1983, Mu Xing moved to Peru for family and work. Thanks to an investment from his good friend Cao Ho Chui (曹浩财), Mu Xing was able to start his first business venture and opened his very own restaurant. After a few years, Mu Xing moved to Canada in order to provide a higher standard of living for his family.

Arriving to Toronto in 1986, Mu Xing worked tirelessly with the ultimate goal to bring his family over. Eventually with wife and daughter by his side, Mu Xing was able to replicate his endeavour and opened a restaurant in 1989. In Toronto, he was committed to serving and bringing comfort to people through the thing he knew best, by cooking for his family and community. Working hand-in-hand with the perpetual support of his family, their food has provided joy to patrons throughout the years in communities including Cabbage Town, St. Clair, Oakwood, Thornhill, and most recently St Mary’s.

Mu Xing is best known for his work ethic and devotion to his family. He had been a fighter all his life, characterized by his unwavering perseverance, overcoming odds and obstacles at every turn. His recent hobbies included living in the moment, serenity with nature, seeing people enjoy his cooking, playing mah-jong, and spending quality time with his family. Mu Xing was also a member of the Hallelujah Chinese Evangelical Free Church.

He is survived by his four children (Elizabeth, Lily, Edison, and Sandy), four grandchildren (Amelie, Jaren, Tristan, and Ariel), and dog (Taiyang)

Although i never had the honour of meeting Mu Xing, i have known his daughter Liz since she was in elementary school and from what i read Mu Xing was exactly as Liz has always described him. He clearly was a family man and judging by the strong work ethic, honesty and honorability of Liz, Mu obviously did a great job as a father and he should be proud of the fatherly nurturing which resulted in such a lovely daughter and grandchildren.
