Baldwin Richard Wong
July 21, 1971 – January 30, 2014

A much loved father, son, brother, nephew, and uncle, Baldwin Wong, 42, of Markham, Ontario passed away suddenly on January 30, 2014.
Baldwin was born July 21, 1971, in North Bay Ontario. He moved to Deep River, ON in 1986 and then to Burnaby, BC in 1989 with his family. He finished high school at Alpha Secondary in Burnaby, and started his post secondary education at Capilano College. He then returned to Ontario in 1991 to attend Brock University where he graduated with his Bachelors of Business Economics.

Growing up and into adulthood, he enjoyed athletics especially tennis, volleyball and football. He spent years playing indoor and beach volleyball perfecting his spike and working on his tan. He hoped to one day return to the courts.

He enjoyed exploring the outdoors year round and shared his enthusiasm with the girls. He spent hours at parks, tobogganing, biking and frolicking with his daughters. One of their favourite pastimes together was looking for ‘treasures’. They wandered the shorelines seeking the prettiest seashells and competed to find the most unique shaped rocks and “gems”. He showed them how to find smooth, flat rocks ideal for skipping. He taught the girls to appreciate the beauty nature had to offer. Baldwin was a doting dad and created special “Wongisms” between him and the girls. They had a special, unconditional bond and did not have a care in the world when they were together. Home life was built around unbridled love, lots of giggles, teaching them Toi-san words and phrases and French songs from his childhood. His greatest joy was witnessing the girls come out of their shell - animated and free spirited.

Baldwin loved to travel and would always be ready to go - rain or shine, passport updated and shades on. Whether it be family road trips or worldly jaunts, his passion for travel and food went hand in hand. He was an amazing cook and loved to prepare a feast. He would often try to replicate specialty dishes by buying ingredients native to the places he traveled and was eager to share them with friends and family. He loved to eat and often took his time doing so to savour all the flavours.

A generous individual with a big heart, he was loyal, trustworthy and always put family first. He was a sensitive man filled with compassion for others. As a young adult, he spent several years caring for his grandmother. While most guys his age would be out with their buddies, he would be cooking, cleaning and taking care of ‘ah gnin’. They adored each other and we will take comfort in knowing that they are reunited.

Baldwin is survived by his beloved daughters Kristen and Sandrine Wong; his devoted mother and father, Yuen Ching Wong and See Kwong Wong; his sisters, Sophia Wong (Donald Chow), Daisy Wong (Ron Schmidt) and Margaret Wong (Albert Choy) and nephew Brayden Choy. He will also be sadly missed forever by his uncles, aunts, cousins and other loving relatives and friends.

Visitation and services will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday Feb. 11th, at Elgin Mills Chapel and Cemetery, burial will follow.

In lieu of flowers, Baldwin’s family has set up a trust fund for his daughters Kristen Wong and Sandrine Wong.

Donations can be made via Interact e-transfer to Manulife Bank & Trust #540, Transit#05012, Account #1363561 sophia.wong10@gmail.com or via cheque to Sophia Wong (in Trust for Kristen Wong and Sandrine Wong).
